No doubt about it, Putin is a criminal oligarch with visions of being a 21st century tsar
But I have relatives who lived under Stalin, and were sentenced to the Gulag. Until I see a vast system of slave labor camps and a society gripped by arbitrary terror, I just think the equivalency to Stalin walks the borders of hyperbole
We are fortunate to be descendents of the British parliamentary constitutional system. It has been the envy of the world for five centuries.
But I have never thought that gives us standing to pat ourselves on the back and puff up with pride about American exceptionism. America and our rightwing Vassal states have committed many crimes against humanity.
Russia, like most of the rest of the world, has never managed to live up to the Heritage of the British constitutional parliamentary system. But their governments have not been unrelentingly evil. For one thing, governments are more than just twelve old guys in the Kremlin. There have always been administrators, bureaucrats, and civil servants across Russia who tried to do a consciencious job and serve the public welfare. Russia even had leaders I would not call pure evil. Alexander II was a 19th century reformer, and Gorbachev and Kruschev were really Mensheviks, not Bolsheviks.
I don't know if a bloody revolution is what will be needed to unseat Putin. The February and October 1917 revolutions were basically bloodless coups. The danger is in civil war which could follow a revolution

I too have a BIG problem with US imperialism, we're no better and probably worse than the ancient Romans, Greeks, Persians, Vikings etc etc etc, but at least we have freedoms Russians (and Chinese) can only dream of today.....though yes, all that comes at a price for various other nations standing in the way of businesses like Dole and profiteers like The World Bank and IMF........Wall Street's Think Tank and Confessions of an Economic Hitman among others lay that all out. and if the US can't swindle poor nations they break out the guns and ammo and use proxies from wherever they can find them
instead of a bloody revolution I'd prefer to see Putin assassinated and so at least stop this genocide, but fear since his coterie of oligarchs are waiting in the wings nothing much would change. Vlad would probably be replaced by some kind of a benevolent dictator who would be simply one of the boys and it's business-as-usual. honestly I have no idea how Russian will ever rid itself of people, been a problem for them for a thousand years.
It is possible that even worse people are in Putin's thrall. There is a political power that has no trouble attacking a country that was no threat to them. The generals and military are doing it. Removing Putin may not solve the problem with Russia.
