Masks are completely ineffective against viruses. Not even a surgical mask (a biocide treated version of an N95 mask) is effective against a virus.
You can stack 20 of them on your face and it won't do a damn thing except cause hypoxia. A single mask already does cause mild hypoxia. Wearing them for a long time is not recommended. They are useful as dust masks, but one should take a break in fresh air from time to time without the mask on.
Surgical masks are useful in surgery because they can help prevent goo from splattering on the surgeons mouth and nose, and they are somewhat effective against bacteria for a couple of hours (then they are like any other N95 mask). Surgical masks do not prevent a patient from getting infected. Antibiotics do that and maintaining clean and sterile equipment do that.
Fauci is biased. He's hasn't practiced medicine in decades. He's a bureaucrat, subject to government agenda and his own self interests (he benefits from being in the spotlight as much as possible). He ignores the N95 specification, and has made stupid conflicting comments about masks over the past year, first denying (correctly) their effectiveness, then saying they should be required, then saying you should wear TWO of them (to which MSNBC then suggested THREE of them!). I think masks can prevent some big droplets when a person sneezes n shit on someone. but as we see by the spikes and infection rates they have been mostly ineffective. Cloth masks are neer worthless according to this peer reviewed study and this is in a medical setting, it would only be worse with layman and cheap chinese cloth masks that most are wearing. :

I wear a mask at work 8+ hours a day. It’s not unusual for me to log 10,000-15,000 steps during that period. No big deal.
