I'm already getting a sense of "they did it to Obama, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing, and trying to win the next election.
You can fight for your principles and still work w/ the ruling party to try to achieve compromise and working solutions for America's problems. America is at its best when the parties find a way to work together. Tip O'Neil & Reagan, Gingrich & Clinton. Those seem like such bygone eras. The Bush & Obama admins were characterized much more by opposition parties that were more concerned about politics than their constituents. Some on the GOP side even openly stated that early on in the Obama years.
The Democrats have a glorious chance here. They can reverse that trend, and set a new example of opposing without obstructing. There are many areas that they can find common ground with Trump on. He's certainly not any kind of extreme right-winger.
And they'd reap greater rewards at the polls if they went that route. Americans are so tired of the partisan, establishment BS. To see a noble opposition party - fighting for their beliefs, but also working with the majority - would be a great start for Democrats to reinvent themselves and become a majority party again.
