Proper opposition

I'm already getting a sense of "they did it to Obama, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing, and trying to win the next election.

You can fight for your principles and still work w/ the ruling party to try to achieve compromise and working solutions for America's problems. America is at its best when the parties find a way to work together. Tip O'Neil & Reagan, Gingrich & Clinton. Those seem like such bygone eras. The Bush & Obama admins were characterized much more by opposition parties that were more concerned about politics than their constituents. Some on the GOP side even openly stated that early on in the Obama years.

The Democrats have a glorious chance here. They can reverse that trend, and set a new example of opposing without obstructing. There are many areas that they can find common ground with Trump on. He's certainly not any kind of extreme right-winger.

And they'd reap greater rewards at the polls if they went that route. Americans are so tired of the partisan, establishment BS. To see a noble opposition party - fighting for their beliefs, but also working with the majority - would be a great start for Democrats to reinvent themselves and become a majority party again.

"they did it to Obama, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing,???

and before that,
"they did it to Bush2, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing,
and before that
"they did it to Clinton, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing,
and before that
"they did it to Bush 1, so we're going to do it to them." Just opposing for the sake of opposing,

etc.....

Typical sort of thoughtless response.

Clinton & Gingrich worked together, and they got a lot done. Tip O'Neil & Reagan did the same.

It doesn't go on & on & on as you seem to be implying. The last 2 admins are where it has become general, accepted practice.

But thanks for your contribution to the discussion.

Trump has all of government.. don't squander it. The Dems are upset -let them vent.
What I really want to see though, as THING has mentioned is some bi-partisanship.

For the Repubs; that means keeping the Dems informed, and taking their ideas seriously -it's SO MUCH better
when both parties agree on an outline. not on everyhting, but where they do agree needs to be trumpeted

For the Dems get over it ( Like Obama and Hillary) both showed an ex. Lobby for your ideas, but keep it professional.

For Trump: he's gotta set the tone.

The only thing I'll say with confidence is that deals will be made under Trump lol. He's a deal maker---he takes pride in it. Again, he's not an ideological animal so don't be surprised if he's more willing to cross party lines to get something done than many republican presidents have been.

Republicans in congress may have to reign in their own president at times.

Pinheads have been calling the Republicans 'obstructionists' for 3 decades....but never consider they do the very same thing.....dems the facts,
and now, before Trump is even in the Oval Office, they are demanding the minority leader prepare to stop anything and everything that comes
down the pike....
and your welcome.

I hope they do obstruct. They worked with Dubya and it brought bad results.

I believe they will join the real gop, the one that opposes many of his views on trade, immigration & spending....

that is a complete misreading of facts

Tip did not work with Reagan. Reagan defeated Tip. Tip said Reagan's budget was DOA. Reagan took it to the people and crushed Tip

Same with Clinton and Newt. Clinton did not want to sign welfare reform. He got forced into it

Really? We never consider it? Even though I mentioned that Dems did it to Bush?

Clinton & Gingrich worked together, and they got NAFTA done.

trumpf don't like that deal.. Is the newt gonna support him undoing it?? Is the gop??

BTW

It was Obama that told Paul Ryan "I won. You lost. Elections have consequences"

It was the dems that nuked the filibuster for nominations. Now they can stop nothing. Oh, I am sure that they will become big fans of the filibuster today (and the GOP will become less so). That is how it happens. But, it is time for the GOP to steamroll their legislation. Use reconciliation to repeal Obamacare.

Screw the dems in the senate. Screw bipartisanship. We didn't vote for bipartisanship. We didn't vote for unity. Now it is time to force things down the democrat party's throats

Well, there is that option. America has a long, proud history of rejecting parties that overreach, so I'm sure some on the left are hoping for that very thing.

I am sure that the country will swing back. They don't know what they want. So the GOP might as well push through as much as they can now.

Flat tax - eliminate the IRS
Eliminate Obamacare
Eliminate regulations
Eliminate the EPA

Just flood the zone

Finally a reasonable stance
