Princeton and Woodrow Wilson

yes I do. You cannot blame people of the past for the culture that they lived in. I don't want my future legacy erased because I am not in favor of robot-human marriage or the fact that in 200 years we find out that animals have as much sentience as humans and we will all be viewed as murderous cannibals by a future all vegetarian society.

The modern world was basically built by white people. And most of them were racist back then. I am not going to erase the entire history of the enlightenment and all grand values we have today because of some butt hurt 19 year old kids
Exactly. Well said!!

They still have a right to protest in this country Grind, even though you don't agree with them and I have the right not to admire Wilson for his racism.

Everything these students are saying about Wilson can also be said about Lincoln. Like any great man or woman they should be admired for their contributions and criticized for their flaws.

To me this is more "man bites dog" politicking. Some young, energetic and passionate student activist are making a big commotion for some thing they believe strongly about and like most youths they lack a sense of context and proportionality. Big whoop. That's been going on at college campuses since long before I was born.

It's probably safe to say that these young activist are just a very vocal yet small minority of the over all student body.

They still have the right to protest, even if you don't agree with them.

Then don't admire him....just don't force your beliefs on the rest of the country....THAT is not your right.

There's nothing wrong with trying to win people over to your way of thinking but I don't see that happening here. To top it off Princeton is a liberal Ivy League University and Wilson is much admired in the progressive movement.

I am hardly forcing my beliefs on the rest of the country Vanilla, but I do have a right to my opinions. I lost a great deal of respect for Wilson when I read about eugenics and that is my right.

And you've a perfect right to your opinions, racist......and not force your beliefs on the rest of us.

Now if only the clowns at those colleges could understand that others have rights too....

Get Wilson's name out of Princeton. Here's a list of names which need to go:

☑ Democratic-Republicans
☑ Jacksonian Democrats
☑ Confederate Democrats
☑ Wilsonian Democrats

Righties excoriate Sanger but give Wilson a pass, huh!

If you are going to get on your high horse over history then perhaps you ought to do a little research first? Leading black intellectuals such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Thomas Wyatt Turner were also advocates for eugenics. Indeed W. E. B. Du Bois believed "only fit blacks should procreate to eradicate the race's heritage of moral iniquity." Feminist reformers also advocated an agenda of eugenic legal reform, Margaret Sanger being the most famous but was far from alone with her views. The debate on American eugenics would include the fact that it was popular with progressives and was not, or not only, the province of right-wing xenophobes.
