They still have a right to protest in this country Grind, even though you don't agree with them and I have the right not to admire Wilson for his racism.

To me this is more "man bites dog" politicking. Some young, energetic and passionate student activist are making a big commotion for some thing they believe strongly about and like most youths they lack a sense of context and proportionality. Big whoop. That's been going on at college campuses since long before I was born.

It's probably safe to say that these young activist are just a very vocal yet small minority of the over all student body.

There's nothing wrong with trying to win people over to your way of thinking but I don't see that happening here. To top it off Princeton is a liberal Ivy League University and Wilson is much admired in the progressive movement.

I am hardly forcing my beliefs on the rest of the country Vanilla, but I do have a right to my opinions. I lost a great deal of respect for Wilson when I read about eugenics and that is my right.

If you are going to get on your high horse over history then perhaps you ought to do a little research first? Leading black intellectuals such as W. E. B. Du Bois and Thomas Wyatt Turner were also advocates for eugenics. Indeed W. E. B. Du Bois believed "only fit blacks should procreate to eradicate the race's heritage of moral iniquity." Feminist reformers also advocated an agenda of eugenic legal reform, Margaret Sanger being the most famous but was far from alone with her views. The debate on American eugenics would include the fact that it was popular with progressives and was not, or not only, the province of right-wing xenophobes.
