Dixie - In Memoriam

I know a lot of people will see this and shake their heads, here Dixie goes again, jumping on the latest bandwagon, or in Paul's case, the Crazy Train. But with polls fluctuating like Joan Collins personality, it's difficult to determine who will ultimately win the GOP nomination, and as time goes on, Ron Paul is appearing more and more viable. Now, I don't believe this means he will win the nomination, but it is enough to make me consider, what if he did? Could I support Ron Paul over Barack Obama, and the answer is unequivocally YES!
I wouldn't be one of Paul's crazed fanatics, and I would still clearly admit Ron Paul is insane, but over Obama? Yeah, I'll take him for 4 years, it couldn't possibly be worse than 4 more years of Obama. Perhaps Congress would be able to offset Paul's more radical ideas, he wouldn't be able to dismantle all the stuff he has promised, and what little bit managed to get through the cracks, probably needs eliminating, so I could live with that. Relaxing drug laws... not a problem for me, we have bigger problems. Foreign policy is the one area he really scares me, but again, I think there are enough intelligent minds in Congress to mitigate any damage Paul could do, besides... we essentially have a neutered foreign policy now, so how would that be a change? At least Paul would be serious about scaling down the size and scope of government, and I suppose he would find a way to balance the budget, which would be nice for a change.
Some will say, well what about the economy and trade? And I don't know that Paul would help improve much there, but I am fairly certain we can't endure 4 more years of Obama economic policy. Others will add, what happens when Paul is attacked by the left, as we see them starting to do now, parsing out his speeches to make him appear to be a racist? My response is this.... GET USED TO THAT! It doesn't matter if the GOP nominates Gandhi, the left is going to orchestrate the biggest smear campaign in modern political history, on WHOEVER the nominee shall be, we can COUNT on that! You're going to hear how they are racists, were born racists, how they want to take over the world and kill all black people, and how they love only wealthy white people. You're going to hear how they cheated, lied, and bought their way to the top, how even their own family has disavowed them, how they would sell their mothers for a tax break for the rich.... on and on. It's going to get really ugly, because the Democrats have nothing else to run on.
The way I see it, if we KNOW this is heading down the pike, regardless of who we pick, we might as well pick the craziest nutbag in the room, and let them flail away! It's hard to destroy someone who has already destroyed themselves with their craziness, so Ron Paul, in light of the current political climate, might not be such a bad candidate after all.
