Prepare For War: 150 Chinese Planes Enter Airspace, War Plans Underway In Taiwan

stay how long? I was fine with the status quo where we had Bagram and that allowed our contractors to get the ANAF up in the air,,and it was working as well.
we had been at 2500 for 18 months (Trump) holding back the Taliban and giving logistics to the ANAF
my analysis is based on what was happening on the ground
Trump got us down from 11k to 2.5k without combat deaths
Biden couldn't even pull out without getting 13 Americans killed, and others left behind

That's our difference. My position was to STAY as the better option. LEAVING (whether Trump or Biden) was the wrong decision.

Nice try but no.

"From the headlines of several news agencies, you’d think China was on the verge of war with Taiwan. U.S. News: “Brazen China Steadily Ramps Up Warplane Flights in Taiwan’s Airspace.” Yahoo News: “China Flies 52 Military Planes Into Taiwanese Airspace in Largest Incursion Ever.” NPR (during a similar spate of flights this summer): “China Sends a Record 28 Military Planes Into Airspace Controlled by Taiwan.”

If China really had done this, it would constitute a gross violation of international law and, possibly, the fanning of war flames. But in fact, all of the reports are false.

What the Chinese planes crossed was Taiwan’s air defense identification zone, or ADIZ, and the distinction is not a mere technicality; it is enormous, and all the parties—U.S., Chinese, and Taiwanese military officials—know it, whatever scare tactics they might be tossing up to a frazzled public...

...
the Chinese airplanes crossing into Taiwan’s ADIZ did not approach Taiwanese territory. Rather, they crossed into the southwestern section of the zone—away from Taiwan itself. M. Taylor Fravel, an expert on China’s military and the director of MIT’s Security Studies Program, said in a phone conversation Tuesday, “These planes are never on a vector to intrude into Taiwan’s airspace.”

This is a great place to note yet again what shitty work the so-called journalists do now.

actually we agree: but only if would could just stay at Bagram -nowhere else, and im not sure that would be doable.... but it think it would.

Bagram would have given us real counter-terrorism platform..not "over the horizon" signature strike murders

If you know that, then please tell me if they identified themselves to the Taiwanese? Do you take the same attitude to the Chinese illegally occupying the Spratly and Parcel islands?

Sometimes you have to go out of the Safe Zone. The Afghans were doing most of the fighting while NATO troops were more in a back-up role. Maybe it would have taken 10,000 troops?
Shame to leave after 20 years, thousands of US casualties, and a trillion dollars.
I'm not supporting 'Retreat' here. That's NOT my position.

It's funny how I've seen you say that before, I'm sure that I'd have noticed.

Probably not. You're too busy crying about your Brexit vote and now ... wondering if you will have to suck off Putin to get Fuel. (it looks like a Cold Winter in Britain, Primavera) :(

No surprise there. There's a lot of gullibility in this thread.

I've never understood why Media Bias/Fact Check is held in such thrall by the Left.

The Columbia Journalism Review describes Media Bias/Fact Check as an amateur attempt at categorizing media bias and Van Zandt as an "armchair media analyst".[2] The Poynter Institute notes, "Media Bias/Fact Check is a widely cited source for news stories and even studies about misinformation, despite the fact that its method is in no way scientific."[3]

no. enough of the nation building.
the ANAF was capable -but they must have been backed up with logistics, and maintenance
We also were their paymasters -which is a big deal because the Afghans are corrupt

This was the safe position. on a chess board it's called zugzwang:
a player is said to be "in zugzwang" when any possible move will worsen their position.

Do you think Lake Pontchartrain will freeze over this year?

I don't think being in Afghanistan is 'nation-building'. Are we 'nation-building' in Germany, South Korea, Japan?

Yes. 'Paymasters'. Bottom Line ... if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. No matter a superior strategy, if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Your Head and your Heart might say STAY, but if your Wallet says 'Nope', the Decision is made. I don't know about Trump, but I can see Biden having an ambitious Plan here at home and needing all the Money for Projects in the US.

Bull SHit....they simply make new money.

This is suicide.

Germany, South Korea and Japan were certainly nation built in the past, how can you say otherwise? As for the rest, pure bullshit. The 7th Fleet is based in Yokosuka ffs, didn't you know that? Xi would love to take over Taiwan and then Korea, North and South, he'd then have total control over the electronics sector.
