And so was Nicaragua. If you KNEW the number of US lives that were lost or ruined in that illegal war you would shit yourself. While I was in the Army a story broke of a soldier that was killed when the 160th SOAR flew an illegal incursion into Nicaragua during one of the Big Pine Operations that were nothing more than disguises to violate Nicaragua's sovereignty. The Army put the dead soldier on ice till they could find a suitable accident on Fort Bragg to say he died in. That would be fine but then they decided to say he was not wearing his seatbelt so that his USGI would not pay out to his family. Finally one of the pilots from the 160th spoke up to his Senator and it was taken care of. That was but just one soldier killed or wounded fighting an illegal war in a place we had no business. El Salvador was another place where we supported a murderous regime that killed and disappeared anyone that showed any support for the leftists in that country. Your view of Reagan is colored by the fact that he was a republican. The man did some good things for this country but he was not a saint and his administration violated the law. He said he did not know and I believe that probably Bill Casey and Oliver North ran that operation without his knowledge. But the bottom line was, he either lied about Iran Contra or he had NO CONTROL of his administration. Seeing as he is your saint, you decide which is true because neither is flattering.
Although the buck stops at the Presidents desk, due to the sheer magnitude of the job and the fact that authority must be delegated there are bound to be some errors. That does not belittle Reagan as the best man to hold that office in the 20th century.
