Postal Service backlog sparks worry that ballot delivery could be delayed in November

The U.S. Postal Service is experiencing days-long backlogs of mail across the country after a top Trump donor running the agency put in place new procedures described as cost-cutting efforts, alarming postal workers who warn that the policies could undermine their ability to deliver ballots on time for the November election.

As President Trump ramps up his unfounded attacks on mail balloting as being susceptible to widespread fraud, postal employees and union officials say the changes implemented by Trump fundraiser-turned-postmaster general Louis DeJoy are contributing to a growing perception that mail delays are the result of a political effort to undermine absentee voting.

I’m shocked!

(Reuters) - Americans across the political spectrum have widespread concerns that November’s U.S. election will be marred by fraud, interference or efforts to suppress the vote, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday.

The poll found 74% of registered voters were concerned about “organized voter fraud by political actors hoping to sway the results of the elections,” including seven of 10 Democrats and eight of 10 Republicans.

About 73% of registered voters also said they were concerned about “voter suppression,” including eight of 10 Democrats and six of 10 Republicans.

I dread the election results because the loser is going to claim the winner cheated.

It is caused by Trump's appointee who has no skills and knowledge for the office. His job is to sabotage the post office from the inside as so many Trump appointees are charged with doing. He stopped overtime during a pandemic . That means the people covering for the ill carriers could not do it. He is trying to make the post office look bad so corporations can loot us in the future.

It’s called Starving the Beast

By saying he may not abide by the election if he loses. By trashing mail in ballots with no evidence of fraud.

That is a stretch. He did not say he would not abide, only that he would have to "see" and he doesn't have a choice. Criticizing mail-in ballots is not cheating. He is just bloviating as usual.

Stick to real possibilities. His mention of delaying the election was quickly dropped after Republican leaders of Congress opposed it.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that that is how Trump speaks, he says what he really thinks, then adds a statement to give him wiggle room so that he has an out and people can defend his statements by saying, that’s not what he said. May or may not is one of his favorite wiggle room statements.

Let's see how reasonable you are. A President should, "A", attack the integrity of our election system. Or, "B", fight to ensure no fraud takes place. Trump has chosen "A."
Which would you choose?

I think it is whatever just pops in his head. It does not have that much forethought.

I would choose B (although it is largely a state issue). But choosing A is not the same as announcing he is going to cheat (even if he plans to do so). Partisan hyperbole (fascist, traitor, etc.) is not being reasonable but just elementary school name calling. Trump has done enough to legitimately criticize without exaggerated claims.

Almost weekly for three years we have heard about the latest incident that would bring Trump down. Both sides are overly optimistic. Dramatic changes tend to seldom occur.
