Physical

That's probably why the ASCVD risk calculator put his risk at 16.7% despite his otherwise good #s.

You're wise to avoid statins if possible. They've been implicated in several conditions, including diabetes. My brother quit taking his and is focusing on diet and more exercise. He is 74, 6' tall and 165 lbs, and has always been quite athletic, hiking and/or biking several miles daily. A month after he started on the Crestor, his fasting glucose shot up to 125 (normal is <100) and he developed gout. The gout probably wasn't related. At any rate, a month after he quit taking the drug, his glucose was back to normal and the gout was gone.
Yep... I told my doctor when I first met him that I'm not taking anything until it's life/death. I tried an experiment last year, and opted for a protein based breakfast vs. the normal healthy grain (carb) breakfast. I feel better after eating eggs, as opposed to carbs.

But...my cholesterol shot up 40 points, so I'm nixing the eggs again!

Zinc spray is one of the only things that actually works once you're sick. That's a physical reaction, as opposed to an immune issue. But yes...prevention is always the answer, which is why so many preventive procedures were included in ACA law
In order for preventive practices to work, you have to take advantage of them-not many do...(ACA absolutely ruined our health care plan that we had for many, many years...:(
We have zinc capsules. No need for zinc spray, but thanks...I just may put that on the list...

We live in the far north. During the winter when hiking or show-shoeing we often encounter ppl on the trails during the day -- they are almost all our age (60s), some even older. I can't think of a single one of our friends and/or neighbors our age who is overweight. One neighbor is, but she's in her late 30s -- and even so, she's out on her snow mobile in the winter, ATV in the summer, plus spends all day logging their property down the road, driving heavy equipment and the feller-buncher. So she's in good shape too. My favorite is Ann, the neighbor down the road in the other direction. She's Trump's age, about the size of a leprechaun and as flexible as a pretzel, does an hour of yoga daily, and still runs her own tailoring business in town (she works 10 hr days at that).

Y'all keep up the good work!

I always thought rural northerners looked in pretty good shape, on balance. My Canadian relatives and their friends all seem to be in really good shape. My cousin' s husband in 83, and this dude still thinks nothing of getting on his bike and riding 25 kilometers to go visit his daughter. He is my model, my template!

Zinc coats the lining of the upper respiratory tract and prevents the cold virus from entering the cells. Unfortunately it doesn't work on influenza viruses
It's also a positive/negative bonding thing with the zinc being positive, and the virus being negative. Supposedly, the zinc bonds to the virus and moves it out of your respiratory tract into your digestive tract, where it's eliminated.

See above. It's different than taking zinc pills. ACA made my insurance ten times better, but I'm in the individual market for 40 years

I'm an avid ice fisherman. I tell my friends who are always 'dieting', simply put some clothes on when it's freezing out, and take a long walk. Your body burns calories just to keep you alive. Fishing is a real workout, given that I'm wearing about 30 lbs of clothing, and carrying a 40 lb ice auger around for extended periods of time.

In the past two years, I had no choice but to schedule a couple of big jobs in the winter. I missed out on the majority of the ice fishing seasons, and my blood work shows it.

Nothing is going to stop me this year. With these temps, we already have more than a foot of ice on the lakes.

If I'm not sick, I don't need the spray...
ACA ruined our insurance. I've had mine since 1977, and it was solid plan, thankfully not oft needed. Hope I don't need it until things get fixed...

His numbers are all suspect,as there is no way his fat ass,big blubber belly weighs 239!
If they lied on that number, they lied on all the numbers!

How accurate are the "predictions"?
I don't subscribe to them, because when I tell my doctor to change some data, the numbers will always be similar based solely on age. But it's an indicator, the same as BMI is. Not particularly accurate, but meant for comparison. I'm 6'0, and I go between 170-180 depending on the time of year. According to a chart in my doctor's office, I'm a few lbs. away from being overweight when I'm at 180. I prob have 5% body fat

You had your plan,of course your POV, is fuck all those that had none but got coverages because of the ACA!
Thankfully Gov.Kasich took the Medicaid expansion money and got 1000's and 1000's of Ohioians coverage!
I'm sure you voted for Republican Kasich!

Good lord, that kind of anger is not healthy...take a chill pill.... and what did someone say this morning? You're dismissed:)

Nobody does. I think that was the discussion. Many people make claims about how ACA 'ruined' their insurance. Once one delves into the facts re. where they get their insurance, the truth comes out. If you live in a Red state, thank your governor. If your have an employer that's an asshole, thank him/her for cutting expenses and blaming Obama.

Insurance is a complex problem in this country, and this admin is doing nothing to improve it.

IF you're going to 'dismiss' someone, you have to put them on ignore. Otherwise, the gnat still buzzes around the threads.

I'm retired. I've had the basically the same insurance, very few changes, since 1977. All was well and affordable until the ACA...
Now it's crappy and not affordable.

We are about to go on that beginning next month; our current insurance through husband's COBRA benefit expires at the end of this month. We had been paying $1009/month for it since he retired in 7/2016; they jacked the premiums up to $1336 beginning January 1st! With the ACA we will be paying a bit over $100, for essentially the same coverage.

Thanks, Obama. lol

so, now that shitholes and poor health have floated downstream, how about the demmycrats settle down and work up an acceptable deal for immigration?.......

An excellent choice!

Another thing I've noticed about ppl who have lived all or most of their lives in the north -- we are not as badly wrinkled as folks who get a lot more sunshine.
