Althea
Althea told me...
Yep... I told my doctor when I first met him that I'm not taking anything until it's life/death. I tried an experiment last year, and opted for a protein based breakfast vs. the normal healthy grain (carb) breakfast. I feel better after eating eggs, as opposed to carbs. That's probably why the ASCVD risk calculator put his risk at 16.7% despite his otherwise good #s.
You're wise to avoid statins if possible. They've been implicated in several conditions, including diabetes. My brother quit taking his and is focusing on diet and more exercise. He is 74, 6' tall and 165 lbs, and has always been quite athletic, hiking and/or biking several miles daily. A month after he started on the Crestor, his fasting glucose shot up to 125 (normal is <100) and he developed gout. The gout probably wasn't related. At any rate, a month after he quit taking the drug, his glucose was back to normal and the gout was gone.
But...my cholesterol shot up 40 points, so I'm nixing the eggs again!
