Per CNBC Detroit files for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection

Detroit was car town.

they leaned to much on this one industry and when the CEOs failed to lead the companies where they needed to go in a timely manner things changed the industry

now you do.

back then it was car town.

then the CEOs failed to respond to the emerging markets over seas and the oil embargos killed their sales.
EVERYONE started buying the small cheap RELIABLE and SAFE cars from Cos like Toyota.

while pintos were blowing up and killing people

Billy people like me were alive and watching it happen.

We were giving the corps shit for their stupidity as the whole thing took place.

CORVAIR?????

you should have heard the non stop jokes and ragging on this POS car

then Pinto started frying people.

having your gas tank blow up spontainiously kinda RUINS your sales.

No one but fools would buy the shit cars Detroit was building at the time.

All they new how to build were huge gas guzzlers and the foreign market had building small cars DOWN

dude we always had a decent relationship in the past.

I turned out to be right about all that stuff I talked about back then huh?

why are you so hostile to me so you can protect the clap trap some smuck has been feeding you about the world.

accept the real facts

its NOT what the libertarians say it is

the decline was mostly the fault of the CEOs of the three major car cos.

They napped while enmerging markets prepaired and then the big three got their lunch ate

Detroit was once synonymous with U.S. manufacturing prowess. Its automotive giants switched production to planes, tanks and munitions during World War Two, earning the city the nickname of the "Arsenal of Democracy."

Now the city's name has become synonymous with decline, decay and crime. Detroit has seen its population fall to 700,000 from a peak of 1.8 million people in 1950. The city's government has been beset by corruption cases over the years. Waning investment in street lights and emergency services has left it struggling to police the streets.

The city's murder rate is at its highest in nearly 40 years; only a third of its ambulances were in service in the first quarter of 2013; and its nearly 78,000 abandoned buildings create "additional public safety problems and reduces the quality of life in the city," the governor noted in his letter.
