Pence won on style.

"I believe this discussion, complete with your bandwagon comments about my claim about troops, is what exactly you feel the better plan was w/respect to withdrawing from Iraq?"
Have you ever considered obtaining a rudimentary command of the English language? It can be a powerful communication tool.
"Even staunch Conservatives now know that the invasion was a horrible idea."
"Conservative" means to embrace traditional values and principles. What more traditional values and principles can we have than those of the U.S. Founders I quoted in #276?
"your above stated goals"
Please quote me, with post # if you would be so kind.
Thanks.
"What is it that you believe could have achieved"
"without a permanent troop presence?" #278
Sovereignty. Self-determination. Please refer to the John Adams quotation in post #276 above.

Thanks.

You're giving credence to anything Bush ever 'laid out'. I won't waste my time listening to that moron. So you have nothing to offer?

Why not give me the Cliff notes version of your favorite Bush bullet points?

You imbecile! I understand, you are just a bigouth short on actual knowledge. Your calling Bush a moron is an irony that pays dividends.

I see. So you're just talking out of your ass. There is no way to achieve a 'stable' Iraq without a troop presence in perpetuity. The entirety of your text does nothing to refute what you claim is 'moronic blather'. It reads more like really bad prose.

So you can't offer any viable plan for a stable Iraq that doesn't entail an American occupation? Don't be upset. Nobody else here can either.

If you have problems understanding my command of the English language, you probably don't belong in this discussion. It's clear that you haven't even mastered the quote feature here. No...I won't use post numbers to refute your nonsense. Why don't you just learn how to communicate on a message board?

And still, you refuse to offer one iota of evidence that a permanent troop presence is not the only way to achieve your stated goals in Iraq. "bigouth" imbecile, indeed.

How many troops that you reference have been killed in Europe post war?

I have friends who were stationed in Germany in the 70's/80's during peace time. It was safe to enlist back then.

Surely, you aren't comparing the Iraq debacle to Europe?

We aren't going in circles. I see no way that Iraq would ever be 'stable', without American troops present. You seem to disagree. The region is unstable now,

in large part because our decades old program of reaping huge profits from the manufacture of weapons (for sale to our 'allies'), has made our most primitive enemies very dangerous. We have no control over these weapons, and we have no control over those who wage guerilla warfare. We should have learned that after losing the Vietnam war.

The issue is whether Hillary or Obama were culpable for the rise of ISIS and they were. Whether invading Iraq was good or bad is beside the point because Bush has been out of office eight years now.

Iraq was stable when Obama and Hillary inherited it. It's unstable now because we let the SOFA slide under Obama. Did Hillary press Obama to use diplomatic pressure on the Iraqis to renew the SOFA?

No.

That would have come under her domain as Sec State to do that, and she didn't. So we pulled out and ISIS moved in.

That was just one of several foreign policy mistakes Hillary made. I can't blame her campaigners for dredging up some remark Trump made in 2005 and making an 'issue' out of it.

So much wrong in this post.

You & yours are about to get soundly beaten in yet another election. Maybe it's time to learn something?

oddly ( not so oddly) we wind up back in Iraq to fight ISIS with military" trainers". (Special forces).

We should have kept some there - but the Iraqi gov't (Maliki) wasn't interested in keeping a professional army.
Recall he purged the Sunni command structure.

Then add in the al-Sadr demand for local autonomy over US forces - a nonstarter if there ever was one.

It was a Hobson's choice

When we invaded Iraq, we were committing to keeping a permanent fighting force there. Whoever eventually took troops out was going to be blamed for the resulting, inevitable instability.

Because Bush's supporters never want to hold him accountable for anything.
