I don't really have a guess for that. I can't remember if the TEA folks had anything on this scale or duration, but you may know better on that. And, as I said, it's a small few - as Rana's post indicated, it seems to have just been a roving band of troublemakers. It's something that clearly was more of an anomoly than a defining characteristic of the movement.

You don't get it. Of course there will be more media coverage, but fewer and fewer are giong to listen and pay attention. Vandals are not revolutionaries. We are also learning where the funds are coming from to keep this going. It's now nothing more than a camp out for the dregs and useful idiots.

I guess we'll have to see on that. Many of the protesters seem to be in it for the long haul, and the movement has grown more than I ever would have thought.

one thing i've noticed about some of the OWS people. they expect jobs to be handed to them instead of having to actually compete for them.

Oh it's much worse. In an interview I hear the other day, one of the protesters was saying they "would not take a job from a capitalist!" Well... that eliminates about 99.9999% of the jobs out there in the private sector, doesn't it? These people are illiterate idiots who don't know the first thing about history! This whole message about the 1% vs. 99%, is EXACTLY the same message which brought to power, Mao in China and Pol Pot in Cambodia, and we see how well that turned out. These people are fucking retarded and insane at the same time!

They don't want jobs, this exercise proved that! They don't expect jobs to be handed to them, they are prepared to reject them if they are! They want to destroy the capitalist system!

I'm not sure about it being an anomoly; seeing as how there have been articles over the bad behavior of the Occubaggers, for over a week now.
I haven't done any research; but I sure don't remember the Tea Party protests having to be broken up with tear gas or members assaulting the Police.
 
nowhere that i've seen. it also seems contradictory that you're supporting the occupy wall street protestors when the wall streeters are only doing whats natural. It would seem more prudent to occupy capitol street, would it not?

As I've said a bunch of times already, I don't think there is a right or wrong place to protest. I think they chose Wall Street because it's a symbol of the inequity that the system has created (i.e. brokers getting huge bonuses, when most have lost in their 401k's - stuff like that). I don't fault the choice, or see it as contradictory.

I've also expressed some disgust at the amount of money that Obama is about to raise through bundlers. I'm not voting for him, btw. As I stated on a few threads, though, that's just a symptom. The real problem has been around for many years.

Oh, I'm sure some are in for the long haul. They're being funded by left wing groups. You think all those tents, camping equipment and food just fell from heaven like manna?
 
Again, that would be borne out in the signs, etc. if WHAT they were protesting actually confirmed that they understood the source of the corruption. Ignoring this President who collects craptons of cash from the people they are protesting shows that they have no measure of what they are protesting. It would be like protesting the Pentagon and spitting on soldiers to protest the actions of Bush. People there understood the root cause, where they were at didn't make the difference. Nobody was trying to make "citizen's arrests" of soldiers... They protested using effigies of Bush, burning them, hanging them...

This protest, we see the signs and what they say, how they act, what they do, and it makes it clear that they aim at the wrong target. They seem to have no concept of cause.

As Onceler wrote it's a symbol. Compare with demonstrations at military funerals. While protesting the war should take place at Congress or the Pentagon the caskets are the result. Similarly, OWS could take place at Congress or the White House but Wall Street is the result, the symbol.

"A more perfect union. Domestic tranquility. General welfare. Blessings of liberty." Does the economic disparity of today promote those things? Does the fact people are kicked out of their homes while the homes sit empty and rot from neglect promote those things? Does the fact that 45,000 citizens die every year due to a lack of medical attention promote those things?

It's been shown "real" wages have decreased over the decades. Accepting a job does not solve the problem. That's why we see people who have relatively nice homes and a job are still there protesting. They want changes to the "system".

No, the purpose of govt is not to make life as fair as possible. Giving you a home and health care paid for by the citizens is not a constitutional guarantee. That's just idiotic and typical lefty magical thinking. Do you know what "magical thinking" is?
