Osama Bin Laden DEAD!

Firstly, this thread appears not to be working properly. I can access only the first page, Nos 1-19 on my settings.
Anyway, since my first posting here (or rather on its predecessor) in which I expressed my deep sympathy for the American nation followint the event of the eleventh of September, things have moved on. First there was Bush and his delayed action, his indecision, his disastrous leadership and his downright lies.
The efforts to get Americans to believe that somehow Hussein was part of the attack.. and boy, how many did! Millions. The same millions, incidentally that, not only could not find either Eye-rakistan or Afghanirak on a map they couldn't find their own capital city!
Then the statement that bin Liner was of no consequence and the blind faith that many here had in that political 'manoeuvre'.
In eight short years the buffoon with whom half of America identified (with no help whatsoever from Mad Magazine) had not only destroyed the sympathy we had but had changed it to a positive dislike of all things American. America, and Bush in particular was the butt of millions of jokes and a thousand comedians thanked him for a meal ticket and a major boost to their careers.
Then came Obama and within days, as he struggled with a foreign policy that was in tatters and an economy that not only teetered but had a tendency to bring alliances tumbling to a different ground zero, the right wing loonies were whispering, out of earshot of all but their own redneck friends, how terrible it was to have a coloured president.
Oh, and what did the arseholes say about the financial crash? 'It happened on his watch!', an expression that I had never heard until then. Well, my little single brain-celled, racist, god-ist right wing loonies, Osama bin Laden was killed by US troops on Obama's watch. (Now we know why he did not come to the wedding and why there were so few questions about his absence.)
Now, Mr. and Mrs. America, now is the time to be REALLY scared. Yesterday you knew (or thought you knew) who your enemy was. Today you don't.
I guess the parts of this thread that remain inaccessible to me, contain more spinning than child's top, more phoney derision than a crowd of football hooligans whose team has just won, and more stupidity than one could find at the Texas home of George (stupid) Bush.

Note: Damo, could you make this reply window thingy a little larger please? It is difficult to fashion a response when one can see only seven lines of type. Ta.

The bastard is DEAD yippee!!!!

Now I lay me down to sleep... one less terrorist this world does keep... with all my heart I give my thanks... to those in uniform regardless of ranks... you serve our country and serve it well... with humble hearts your stories tell... so as I rest my weary eyes... while freedom rings our flag still flies... you give your all, do what you must... with God we live and God we trust.... Amen (author unknown)

They showed the compound burning last night, hard to imagine it burned for a week!?!?!

also hard to believe Pakistani news wouldn't have mentioned something about a US attack in the suburbs of their capital last week.....

which brings up another interesting point.....somehow the Pakistani government needs to explain that while they were complaining how difficult it was to find bin Laden in the caves of the back country he was in a secured compound built in 2005 a hundred yards away from their military academy.......

Terrorist leader's body buried at sea; Americans rejoice

(CNN) -- DNA matching is under way on samples from the body of slain terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, a U.S. government official told CNN on Monday.

There are photographs of the body with a gunshot wound to the side of the head that shows an individual who is not unrecognizable as bin Laden, the official said.

No decision has yet been made on whether to release the photographs and if so, when and how.

The mastermind of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil was killed by U.S. forces Monday in a mansion in Abbottabad, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, U.S. officials said.

Four others in the compound also were killed. One of them was bin Laden's adult son, and another was a woman being used as a shield by a male combatant, the officials said.

Bin Laden's body was later buried at sea, an official said. Many Muslims adhere to the belief that bodies should be buried within one day.

What was the Fox headline... "White House has what they claim is Osama's body/"

Good question.

back to "how to reduce the deficit"...
Between 2002-2010, Pakistan received approximately 18 billion[8] in military and economic aid from the United States. In February 2010, the Obama administration requested an additional 3 billion in aid, for a total of 20.7 billion.[9]

Great win for the USA. Congrats to the men and women in the military. Thanks to the efforts of Obama and to a degree Bush for pursuing this bunghole until some nice seal clubbed the cowardly Osama.

For those who make this political... um... fuck you.

MSNBC reports that the President was in the Situation Room monitoring the events as they occured at 3:55 A.M., Sunday.

I'm fairly certain Dixie is the only one to do so thus far. But I'm not sure I get the sentiment - it's a political message board, and the event itself isn't devoid of politics. News outlets were already speculating on the political impact.

I'm more in the mode of just looking at the end of OBL on its own, and seeing it in an apolitical way at the moment - but I'm sure over the next days or weeks I'll start to consider political ramifications...
