Chairman Butch Morgan Jr. from St. Joseph County was convicted of felony conspiracy to commit petition fraud and forgery. Dustin Blyth, who served on the Board of Elections, was charged with felony forgery and several counts of making a false petition. Both men were charged and convicted for submitting fake names and signatures on petitions that were designed to get Obama and Hillary Clinton onto the 2008 primary ballots.

A far-left community organizer is going to jail for at least 2 and a half years for election fraud in Michigan. Edward Pinkney was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for rigging a recall election for the mayor of Benton Harbor Michigan.

As I see it, a shared history allows both Republicans and Democrats to absolve their political crimes merely by pointing to the malfeasance of the other. As a corollary, I find that the ‘this democracy’ line works best for those who actually believe it. For those who don’t, the civic exercise gig has no point. Those who reserve their own sense of judgment on such things tend not to be the cooperative, model citizens that some would prefer us to be.

As I see it, the Republican/Democratic divide reflects an in-house argument irrelevant for working people. But the ‘good_cop/bad_cop – evil Republican/Democratic Party narrative fiction has proven a useful tool to buttress evident lagging support and corral people into polling stations where they burn their pinch of incense to Caesar.

I for one won’t condone these bourgeoisie bigotries. I say so because the composition of the Democratic/Republican Party is identical. Both embrace the extremely wealthy, the extremely poor, and every mediating economic stratum. As I see it, both are equally beholden to the mastery of the ownership/investment/banking class. Working people in both have everything in common with working people in the other party, and nothing in common with ruling class interests in their respective party. As I see it, political action which does not proceed on this basis is worse than useless. It is reactionary and regressive.

I should also add that ‘all this country needs’ solutions do begin to grapple with the enormity of the issues around us. Even if everything goes right from this point on, we will be generations digging ourselves out of the third-world rubble that rises into form all around us. It is much more likely that that the tattered bits of democratic tapestry attached like sticky-notes to our fascistic regime will fall away, and the ongoing collapse of our system will reduce us to an historic footnote. The state lies to us and spies on us. Increasingly, it is ready to turn guns on the people whose allegiance it blithely claims. Once recognized for what it is, the state has little left but to gun down people in our streets.

When that happens, where will your allegiance be?
