Obama's brownie moment: Geithner to Remain as Treasury Chief

omigorsh, we've agreed on two things in the same day....

Well, it is interesting to think about. I've heard a lot of slamming of the stimulus, and of the measures taken. I think it's pretty obvious we're in a pretty complex global situation at the moment, and there isn't a drink mix we can just add water to in order to make it right.

If you were in charge, what would you have implemented in 2009? What about now? Keep in mind, tax cuts & credits were a big part of the stimulus package that passed, and that the Dow just dropped over 1,000 in a few days without any new tax increases at all...

we want an influx of cash into the US......there are trillions of dollars held by overseas corporations that can't be brought into the US as dividends because that would make them taxable......solution?......a tax holiday, which would cost the US nothing, since that money otherwise would never see the US.........the money would be taxfree if brought into the US to create new US jobs.....I would also make all profits earned by corporations on new operations that created new US jobs tax free for the next ten years.....

I would also pass an amendment to Obamacare providing that no company will be required to provide health care to it's employees for at least the next twelve years......

{by the way, there were no true tax cuts for personal taxes in the stimulus, just an early distribution of the tax rebates that people already had qualified for}........

how many years does a democrat president need before he takes responsibilty for the economic results of his fiscal policy?

Hush up, it's Bush's fault. Everything will always be Bush's fault from here until the end of his term... and when he leaves, it will be all Bush's fault he lost the election.

I would have set up a national program like the moon program that would drive to get us off foreign oil. Setting up the infrastructure to deliver and run cars on LNG would be just a beginning and would absolutely create jobs. It would not be limited to electric cars or wind and solar. I would have driven it on a drive for national security and to free us from national interests in the Middle East allowing us to focus on what was important here. I would have driven to seek US providers for that infrastructure, rebuilt bridges, etc. I would not insist that we run a new economy on technology that hasn't been invented and may not be invented during my term/s... I would have worked towards securing tax breaks for hiring new personnel. I would have pushed to extend again the date that Mexican trucks were allowed into the US without inspection so that US truckers could have the work of driving the goods through the US and we wouldn't lose the jobs for the warehouses on the border like we did....

All of this is just the crap at the top of my head, would have been cheaper and more effective than the magic jobless stimulus.

And if my stimulus sucked and had no "shovel-ready" jobs I certainly wouldn't have joked about it.

we misspent the stimulus money, tax cuts and unemployment benifits are bullshit.

Should have been infrastructure, and if you want to get off foreign oil try something proven like domestic oil instead of a high risk bet.

the problem with such blanketed statement is...both parties are spending and taxing the american people down the drain.

That's simply not true. It is true that our government has managed the public fiscus irresponsibly but the truth is, we are one of the lowest taxed nations on the planet.

OK, we all agree that Bush was inept, disastrous and drove this country into a very, very deep hole. What would you have done differently to have dug us out of that hole and how long do you think it would have taken you?

In another thread I already wrote what I would have done. Repeating it in three threads is getting annoying. I think Bush was able to stave off this collapse that was set to happen just after the attacks on 9/11 for nearly 7 years by creating a credit bubble and that the current Administration is only trying to re-inflate that same bubble. Making it worse by inflating credit during a credit crisis is ultimately foolish...

Anyway, it is time to get off foreign energy, and to do it we need to throw all our resources at it. Get our cars running on LNG (the conversion just isn't that expensive), setting up the infrastructure to deliver LNG would give us jobs, drilling for the LNG to power our nation would create jobs, rebuilding the bridges would give us jobs....

Saving government unions is not netting jobs. The jobless "stimulus" is retarded, and claiming he's saved "bunches" of jobs (he actually said that, 'bunches'... is that a technical term? How many jobs are in a bunch?) is inane. We need growth, we need security, we need to deflate the "interests" we have in the Middle East, and lastly we need to stop giving money to the people who will "donate" it to those who would kill us.

And most of all, If I spent over a Trillion on "shovel ready" Stimulus I wouldn't joke about how it wasn't "shovel ready" when I failed to deliver on what I promised and instead squandered the money in other endeavors than "shovel ready" jobs. Fricking mice in San Francisco....

why is it when bush was president he "drove" the country into a deep hole, but now that obama has been president for almost 3 years, he isn't driving anything?

my statement is true. your analysis is complete meadowmuffin. just because other countries tax at a higher rate, does not mean that we aren't taxing the american people down the drain. they do it more!!!

Why the fuck does Geithner have to be in Treasury? There's got to be at least 1 financial lefty out there there who pays his fucking taxes... Isn't there? :cof1:
