Why should it be taxed any differently than any other commercial good? I could live with a sales tax on it, but excise taxes are contrary to freedom.

I see it the same as the gas tax. It is used to provide money for the highway system. Those who consume more typically cause more wear and tear.... thus they end up paying more.

Making it legal and taxing it will result in the price coming down from where it currently is. That is a net win for everyone. Especially when you factor in the costs of incarceration that would go away.

I understand your position and acknowledge that it can be taken too far and thus create a black market. I suppose my position relies too much on politicians doing something correctly.
