I don't believe anyone should get a rubber stamp, but there is no such qualification as "best." She has all the qualifications one would expect of a Supreme Court Justice and some. She has been appointed by democrats and republicans .. AND I firmly believe that her being hispanic is a plus for the court and should be considered.

I'm sure she is a fine judge ....where empathy is actually desired....but that trait makes her unqualified for interpreting the Constitution...

The problem for the right is they simply don't know when to shut their mouths and choose their battles wisely.

good, then when republicans have criticisms, do us a favor and be honest and don't immediately jump up and scream RACISM. hear out the criticism and then make a retort on the merits, don't be a blind democrat or left sheeple and simply run around screaming racism just because a white republican finds fault.

This is something Obama is good at and he has put the Republican Party in a tailspin with competing ideologies within the party already boiling to the surface.

Ok, on that I do agree. Though I still think there is a lot of time between now and the 2010 election for the Dems to hose things up. If Obama can keep the far right in check by his actions.... that may actually benefit the Reps by forcing them to go more towards the center.

With regard to the comments about ethnic bloc-voting made by people on this thread, I will point out that it has occurred since the founding of the US. In a book I am currently reading, Franklin wrote about how Germans came to Pennsylvania and voted in blocs, and he also complained that they were Germanizing the culture rather than the local culture Anglicizing them. He reccommended that incentives be given to English men to marry German women, but reflected that German women are so ugly that it would probably be too expensive a program :) Obviously the last bit was satire, but he made an important point...
 
Reviewing it, it seems she is stating that people are influenced by their biases.

Seems she is speaking the truth to me, and people don't like it. Imagine that, we like to think of our judges as being neutral beings. If that were only the case!!!! A gaffe in Washington! Jeezus Gawd!

Are conservatives now denying they have wanted judges with biases?

No, not really. She may still be fair in her decisions, most decisions the court makes are pretty mundane.

Tell me a court decision you think her sex, and ethnicity will influence and be un-Constitutional?
