Obama cant close the deal on healthcare

And his non presidential like talk as of late isn't helping.

(CNSNews.com) - House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Sunday that the health-care plan that President Barack Obama is pushing in Congress is now dead and will not pass.

Boehner made the observation in an interview this morning on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where he appeared after President Obama.

“There’s been no bipartisan conversation on Capitol Hill about health care,” Boehner said in an interview with "Meet the Press" host David Gregory. “At some point when these big government plans fail—and they will, the Congress will not pass this—it’s really time for the president to hit the reset button, just stop all of this and let’s sit down and start over in a bipartisan way to build a plan that Americans will support.”

“So you think the plan is dead?” asked Gregory.

“I think it is,” said Boehner.

Earlier in the program, President Obama had said that news coverage of the health care debate over the past week had been dominated not by “the sensible people” but by people stoking controversy.

In his own appearance, Boehner rejected the contention that the “tone” of the debate over health-care reform had gotten out of control, saying instead that it has been a “spirited” debate and that more Americans had been engaged in debating health-care reform than had been engaged in debating any issue in decades.

“I mean, let's face it,” Obama told host David Gregory. “If you look at the news cycle over the last--over the last week--you know, it—it--it hasn't been the--the sensible people who, you know, very deliberately talk about the important issues that we face as a country. That's not the folks who've gotten a lot of coverage.”

Later, Gregory asked Boehner about the “tone” of the debate

“I want to stay with this tone of the debate right now and whether or not you agree that by some of the things the president said in the course of that interview, he is trying to cool off the debate, the tone of the debate,” said Gregory. “Do you see it that way?”

“Well, I don’t know that the tone of the debate has gotten out of control,” said Boehner.

“You don’t think so?” asked Gregory.

“It’s been spirited, because we’re talking about an issue that affects every single American,” said Boehner. “And because it affects every American in a very personal way, more Americans have been engaged in this debate than any issue in decades. And so there’s room to work together. But I first believe that we’ve got to just take this big-government option, this big-government plan and move it to the side. Now, let’s talk about what we can do to make our current system work better. Then we’ll have some grounds on which to build.”

Boehner said the White House had not reached out at all to discuss health care reform with House Republicans. Then he said the plan the White House and congressional Democrats were pushing would not pass.

When “Meet the Press” host David Gregory asked Boehner if he thought that plan was dead, Boehner did not hesitate.

“I think it is,” he said.

So you think sick people having no access to health care is a good thing?

The idea that the Baucus bill wasn't the most honest effort to come to bipartisan compromise in probably a generation on anything substantial is pure fiction.

Your compassionless conservatism has been noted. Again.

I don't know why none of my premiums went up and everyone in this state is covered but in the obama plan my premiums would go up. Something is amiss.. hence i am not in favor of it. back to the drawing board.

Baucus plan ≠ Obama plan.

1. How do you know your premiums would go up?
2. Which plan? There is no "Obama plan".
3. So as long as you don't pay a penny more than you do today, screw the poor, those who have pre-existing conditions, and those who lose their coverage due to a layoff?

1) where are the assurances they wont? so far all i hear is they will
2) what ever obama is trying to sell is his plan.
3) why should i pay more when everyone in my state is covered now?

You said your premiums would go up. What's your justification for that statement? Suspicion? Fear?

Name the "plan" that you are talking about. There is no final bill, so I'm not sure what "Obama care" means.

Chap, your premiums are going up anyway. They're going to double in a decade, like they did over the last decade.

You can't say Obama's plan is going to raise your premiums then turn around and say you think so because you heard it somewhere and you can't even tell us what "plan" you're talking about and expect people to take you seriously.

Who's taking him seriously?

Baucus/obama plan. Why I think my premium would go up is based on language in regards to the excise tax mentioned that would effect me as well as the caps tot he flex spending plans that's proposed. Additionally I am unaware as to how the expanded medicare will be funded.

You hear? That's a good one.

Really? Have you heard the president endorse any specific proposal at all?

No reason. I don't know that you would, and....neither do you.

you should take us obama voting independents seriously because we are whats stopping your health care at this point.. Also you mimic Obama's condescending know it all attitude of dismissal of any criticism which doesn't help the situation.

We dont want to get ripped off by some giant scheme shoved down our throats. If you dont have the time to prove it out then I dont have the time to take your plan seriously.

Think back to Bush's social security scheme which people like myself who voted for him was first to question it and criticize it and finally expose what a scam it was. Good thing for those of us who don't follow a party line like lemmings.

Bacus's plan is not Obama's plan. It doesn't have a frikking private option in it. It's the compromise reached with Republicans, which blows chunks.

well what is obama selling? Nobody is going to buy into something that doesn't exist.

edit.. nobody who thinks for themselves that is.

Progressives don't support the Baucus bill. You're trying to frame this as though the Democrats want the Baucus bill and the Republicans don't, and thats the way the Republicans are trying to frame it as well. The Republicans are the ones who negotiated the real Obama proposals away from the bill, leaving it the way it is now - which is horseshit.

A mandate without the public option is nothing but a hand delivery of 45 million subscribers to plans that are already going up in prices in a huge way. It's a huge giveaway to corporate America at taxpayer expense.

Nobody likes the Baucus bill.
