They used to ask voting applicants to explain a law. If you were white, you could leave the question blank, and still get to vote. They rejected all Black answers, including from a graduate of Harvard Law School.

Exactly my point. Once you start giving the federal government the power to decide rights, it always evolves into controlling all rights. It's human nature. The whole power corrupts thing is true.

The most effective way to grow as a civilization is to not strip people of their rights, but help protect them. That's not always the cheapest method, but it is longer lasting, as history proves with all such authoritarian states. The Roman, British and Chinese empires being the longest lasting IIRC.

Only tech has changed the past 10,000 years or so of written history. Human nature has not.

Or put another way, white Americans have a higher gun death rate than any first world country(other than the USA). And not just a little higher, several times higher.

A rational proposal...but as we have seen time and time again rationality, facts and logic are sorely lacking for many on this issue....whether it's the "pro-guns" folk or the extreme "no-guns" folk. Throw in the corruptive power of money for politicians who enjoy their power of office, and we have the mess we have today.
