No more Kneeling for NFL

Tim Tebow kneeled during the anthem in protest against abortion. He said he couldn't stand for a flag that allowed such an action. He was praised as a model American and offered additional contracts for his "bravery".

Who told you that?

Being "in the minority" on this forum...is a badge I wear with honor.

Being "in the minority" on the question of whether the NFL players should be allowed to protest the way they were last year...is a badge I wear with equal honor.

I get that you feel otherwise.

That is a hallmark of a democratic state...as are the protests.
I respect your opinions and have always been respectful to your posts here.
We just happen to disagree on the "protests"...at least where and when they are taking place. That's ok, as you pointed out...

I personally disagree with this type of protest, using the national anthem moment as a way to draw attention to an important issue, but I do emphatically support the right of those who choose to do this - to do so.

That's handy, since the "the right of those who choose to do this" isn't threatened by the League or the government.

It is sad that we still have this issue of racial police brutality and degrading race relations after all these years. It is shameful for our country that we cannot solve this. It is even more shameful the way we have these voices who refuse to admit it even exists, which is highly ridiculous, because many of those same voices are the ones who are expressing racism.

Who, specifically, do you say "refuse to admit it even exists"?

The fact that this is still such a hot button issue after all these years and generations is what makes it seem stirringly appropriate for this type of protest to occur.

Your opinion.

For some to work so hard to ignore the point of the protesting, and to try to make it about something else as the president has attempted to do, is indicative of how deep seated the problem is.

Who's working "so hard to ignore the point of the protesting"? Your characterization of the president's motivation is factually unsupported as far as I know. Are presidents prohibited from expressing an opinion on public events?

That's the real sadness here. Because of these large differences in view, we know that this problem (the one some refuse to even admit exists) will be with us for a long time.

Can you establish a causal relationship between disagreement with the manner and timing of these protests and the existence of police brutality?

Well, if the owners had a spine they would have nipped this in the bud.

NFL fans, by and large, don’t want ‘their game’ [understanding there would be no NFL without NFL fans is central to this] infused with politics. It ruins it for them. Football games are so supposed to be an escape from that sort of thing. The kneelers should understand this and not use any part of the game as a platform for their social justice crusade.

They would do the owners and the fans a favor by indulging in that on their own time—and on their own dime.

If the owners had a spine they would support their players.

This is like when the Dixie Chicks were told to 'Shut up and sing.'

Trump supporters to protesters:

Black men should stay 'in their place;' just 'Shut up and play football.'

I'm reminded that Tim Tebow kneeled during the anthem in protest against abortion. He said he couldn't stand for a flag that allowed such an action. He was praised as a model American and offered additional contracts for his "bravery".

Anyone on here want to admit they praised him or were you kicking his ass as well for disrespecting our flag and anthem?

Tebow kneeled on the field before the game to pray, but not during the anthem. Nice try.

My bad. He knelt after plays and such but apparently not during the anthem. My memory is faulty on this issue regarding Tebow. I take it back.

So you were lying when you claimed Tebow told you he knelt "during the anthem in protest against abortion, said he couldn't stand for a flag that allowed such an action, and was praised as a model American and offered additional contracts for his bravery."

No, the rest is true. I admitted my error. But hey, go ahead and beat that horse if you feel inclined to.

Nothing substantial to add. Just wanted to give it a bit more show.

Let's be clear.

Good morning Legion,

That's handy, since the "the right of those who choose to do this" isn't threatened by the League or the government.

The league has done more than threaten it. It has forbade it.

Who, specifically, do you say "refuse to admit it even exists"?

Are you hoping to establish that everyone agrees racism is still a problem in the USA?

Who's working "so hard to ignore the point of the protesting"?

President Trump and his most loyal followers.

Your characterization of the president's motivation is factually unsupported as far as I know.

Do you claim to know everything?

Are presidents prohibited from expressing an opinion on public events?

No, but wise ones choose their battles carefully.

Can you establish a causal relationship between disagreement with the manner and timing of these protests and the existence of police brutality?

Non sequitur.

I was mistaken. My memory deceived me on this one. If I were lying I would double down on the lie like many of you do on here. I'm ok with you calling it a lie. Life goes on.
