Newt steals from fanny

Umm ... umm ... um ... Things that Republicans say when they cannot discuss an issue on the merits!

WINNER!

This thread is what liberals do when their guy is up to his eyeballs in corruption during an election year and the opposing party has a candidate that scares them. The Gingrich Group is a DC consulting firm. He was hired to consult- they actually paid him. I mean OMG how awful! Meanwhile back in the W.H. pit of corruption, disastrous policy and payback- Solyndra- Fast and Furious.....

Newt ain't scaring anyone. The WH is drooling over the possibility that he could supplant Romney as the main contender.

Nice apologism, btw.

LOL The W.H. drool is actually proof of their idiocy oncie-

Obama's smear campaign will not win out over peoples pocket books- he's a fucking economic disaster. This is an "Anyone but Obama" election year. Newt would mop the floor with Obama.

That's why I think this is so irrelevant. Who even cares? It'd be suicidal to nominate him. I highly doubt he's going to be the nominee but if he is, the election is over. So either way, he's not relevant.

It seems suicidal to nominate any of the current canidates, except maybe Huntsman.

There a lots and lots and lots and lots of Republican voters that do believe that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are the primary cause of the subprime crisis and the resulting global financial crisis. That's why you had Newt Gingrich on a soapbox in 2008 trying to nail Democrats with any link to the GSEs. And that why you have Newt Gingrich now lying about his role, what he earned and what strategic advice he offered Freddie Mac's principals. Newt is reaping what he sowed.

Personally, I don't give a shit whether Newt Gingrich lobbied on behalf of Freddie Mac. I have zero problem with it whatsoever. I do not personally believe that Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae were the cause of the subprime crisis and resultant global financial crisis. But I think's it's fucking hilarious that the same knuckleheads that think Barney Frank (the most powerful ranking member on the House banking committee in the history of this country) personally caused the global financial crisis now are itching to give Newt a pass. Lolers.

I think Romney could beat Obama. Not saying he will, but he could. I would think he's their best bet, other than Huntsman. But he's got all the nuts aligned against him so he's got no chance.

"Obama's smear campaign?" This is Newt's problem, ID. The media is just reporting.

And no - Newt doesn't have a shot. You sound like Dixie. Apparently, you're not aware of the effect Newt has on independents.

Romney will be the nominee, anyway, since Newt won't survive this or his other baggage. And it won't be THAT long before we start seeing the "I was wrong about Romney!" threads from you guys, telling us how you thought he was an empty suit and universal-healthcare-loving MA liberal, but then you heard him speak & everything changed...

I think you are all off on Newt. While he certainly has his issues, so does Obama. If the economy doesn't improve between now and next November, almost anyone is going to give him a close race. Newt can point to what happened when he was in charge of the House. That was the last time our Congress actually focused on balancing the budget and trying to create an actual surplus. Newt would not be my first choice, but I think those on the left are blinded by the fact that he went after Clinton and thus assume he would have no chance.

Obama is a failure to this point with regards to the economy. His policies have not improved the overall situation. They stopped the bleeding, stopped things from getting worse for the most part, but they have done NOTHING to improve the situation. If you are a moderate or independent and the situation remains the same next year.... are you really going to give him another four years?

The "historian" bit is hilarious. Even Newt backed down from that characterization, Damo. Given our lengthy discussions in the past about the failure of the Republican controlled Senate to implement meaningful reforms on the GSEs at the same time that Newt was "consulting" with Freddie Mac on its legislative strategy, I find your defense of Newt quite fascinating.

And, while contracting with a company doesn't preclude you from criticizing it, lobbying Congress on behalf of the company while criticizing others for accepting donations from the company is indeed hypocritical. I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble seeing it if the former party leader were, say, Tom Daschle.

LOL. I was actually going by what I read here. I do know that he was paid over 8 years... I don't really know much about this. I was trying on my "knee-jerk" cloak.

Seriously though. The amount of money is peanuts compared to what FM & FM gives in campaign contributions each year.

Many firms hire consulting firms Jarod. Especially those who are trying to navigate the political world.

True, but often its a sham that is really nothing but a pay off for support. Its legal, I find it to be reprehensable. Just because its legal and many firms do it does not make it okay.

He was paid slightly more than 100K per year for an 8 year contract as a historian after he left office. In the FM/FM world, that is nada.

I'd ask Dungheap whether a former contract with a company which I used to work for precludes me from seeing the truth and speaking out about it and wonder how it could possibly make me a hypocrite.

What did he do for that 100k?

Sf is super hack, bitch about Freddie then suck newts nut while he's robbing us blind. Newt was saying he got it for historian services, probably trying to deflect ethics around behind a lobbyist. Can say I'm shocked super freak supports this shit.

Stop being so fucking retarded. This is an election campaign. Newt is the threat making him the target. This poll proves Newt is not only NOT irrelevant, but the candidate Obama does not want to face and the reason Herman Cain is off the hook this week. If Romney is the nominee- he too will beat Obama. It is an Anyone but Obama year.

Any of them could, but I see lots of the wacko right staying home on election day if Romney is the nominee. Romney or Huntsman are the best chances the Republicans have.

I agree with your conclusions about Obama. They actually reflect my own thoughts on him. (which is scary). However, I think you vastly underestimate how repugnant Newt's personality is. He's got a personality disorder IMO, and Obama would beat him. With Huntsman not being a possibility, it'd be foolish to nominate anyone other than Romney. Face it, you basically have a clown car there. You've got two guys who may be electable in a general, and one of them has been dismissed out of hand by the nutbags.

I doubt it. The whacko right is made up mostly of racists and misogynists. Especially the "religious" nutjobs. They want to stick it to the blacks and the bitches, and they will do anything to get Obama out of office, even vote for a Mormon. IMO. But we'll have to see. I've been wrong.

You're aware that the hypocritical nature of this situation has nothing at all to do with the amount, correct?

I don't particularly care as his future opponent also received funds from the same source in an amount much greater in a more direct "buy political power" kind of way. I think that is a bag that Obama and the Democrats probably don't want to open.
