New study says oceans' chemistry changing rapidly

Dear Professor Dixie,

They measure isotopes, which are a proxy for evaluating ancient pH levels.

Regards,

Cypress

Is it Cypress or DeadHead? Are you confusing isodopes like you with isotopes? If they really measure isotopes, tell us how they do that. And, then add just what isotopes are measured? Then, in response to one of your other posts, I guess you would consider adding water to HCl as being more basic. You propably also believe that a solution having a pH of 8.1 is made a little more acidic by adding a little water to it. You also probably think that a woman in her sixth month is a little more pregnant than she was in her fifth month. Good reasoning Cypress or DeadHead or whatever.

Because that is what he does when someone posts information that contradicts his precious government agencies and beloved masters of the fear monger global warming flat earth theory.

When he does respond to you, it will be nothing more than an attack on the website. He will not address the data. He will not discuss the issue. He will however, call it a rightwing blog... then he will pretend he has some high moral ground, call you a climate denier, and then he will run away again.

Just look at the Climate gate thread in the conspiracy theory portion of the board.... there you will see exactly how he reacts.

I do not class myself as a sceptic, I prefer to say that I'm an empiricist.

Why are you ignoring my post?

Sorry dude, I only come on here in increments of a few minutes, in bits and spurts. And I can't patrol the board for random questions posed to me.

Posted by Tom Prendergast:

The pH of the oceans is 8.1 which makes them weakly alkaline, the question that needs to be answered is why, when they have been absorbing CO2 for over 4 billion years are they not much more acidic?

The answer is known to anyone who's had an introductory oceanography or geology class. The reason the ocean hasn't gotten "more acidic" over geologic time scales, is because of carbonate buffering.

As for your link.... you gave me something called "nov.55.com", which is some obscure website which claims ocean acidification is a fraud.

I, in contrast, gave you a link to a paper signed by virtually every single National Sciences Academy, from almost every single nation on the planet.

Nov55.com?

Or...

the World's National Science Academies?

Which is more credible?

We report, you decide.

See... this is the cowardly replies you can expect from Cypress.

He attacks the NAME of the website you provided. Doesn't even attempt to refute the DATA or ANALYSIS. He just attacks the name of the website.

Then he rushes back and pretends that his sources are really the ONLY 'REAL' scientists. There couldn't possibly be any others than the National Academy. No one else could possibly study the data.

Bottom line. Cypress is a coward. He sees his precious government and other global warming fear mongers have lied to him... but now he is so vested in his kool aid induced idiocy, that he cannot even attempt to debate anymore.

He just attacks the NAMES of websites.

Well you could try using your own brain for once. There are many links to other articles and studies, this is just one.

Hey Professor, remedial chemistry is in order for you. Nitpick all you want, but the scientist in the article is using the correct scientific terminology. the oceans are getting more acidic even though they are still basic. The addition of CO2 to the ocean increases the H+ activity of ocean water (decreasing ocean pH), and thus makes the oceans more acidic.

Don’t believe me? Well then I ask you, who should we trust to provide the correct answer?

1) Anonymous and Obscure Message Board Poster and Alleged Chemistry Armchair Expert Southernman?

Or…

2) The National Academies of Sciences of virtually every Single Nation on the Planet?

Game over. My work here is done, Professor.

Leftist hyperbole and extrapolation; hardly true science.

Nov55.com...Three words: "Unemployed Mushroom Researcher".

Read on, and prepare to bust your gut with laughter!!!

The link I used that validates Ocean Acidification:

A Report Signed by the National Science Acadamies of Nearly Every Single Nation on the Planet.

The Source Superfreak evidently supports, which claims Ocean acidification is a fraud: Nov55.com

What is Nov55.com? Read below, and prepare to fall out of your chair laughing…….

Description for Nov55.com

Website Author: Gary Novak

Profession: Unemployed “Mushroom Researcher”

Status: Mentally Disturbed Loner (his own description of himself)

By Gary Novak:

“In graduate school, I studied yeast physiology and stumbled onto the basic control mechanisms of mushroom formation. Later, I moved onto the vacated family farm in South Dakota, due to disability, and began doing mushroom research. The farm environment gave me the opportunity to explore the details of total mushroom biology in ways which are not possible at universities. “

My income is $450 per month Social Security disability, which is very difficult to live on. I no longer drive that 67 Pontiac shown in the photo. I wish I did. It had twice the space of an SUV and got 20 mpg new. Now I drive my dad's pickup. He has Alzheimer's and is 89. He used to do mechanic work in town during the winters and farmed 450 acres during the summers. So I used to spend my summers on the farm with my grandma doing farm work.

I now stay isolated from the rest of society, because distractions create mental pain. Mental pain is not the same as depression or schizophrenia. It's caused by contact of memories containing pain, which are too close to the surface. So I moved onto the previously vacated family farm, in South Dakota, and did mushroom research. Mental pain is not depression or schizophrenia. It is memories of pain too close to the surface and contacted by external stimuli.

I was wondering how long it would take you to find that, now try reading some of articles and then let's see if you can refute them? Hre is one to get you started.

So you knowingly provided a link to some self-described unemployed "mushroom researcher", who characterizes himself as a mentally disturbed loner?......and you presented that as a credible scientific link?

Astonishing.

Sorry Tom. No offense. But, I'm not going to waste my time, or learn about ocean acidification, from an unemployed, and mentally disturbed "mushroom researcher".

Ocean Acidification is a FRAUD!

Signed,

Gary Novak: Unemployed “Mushroom Researcher”, and self-described mentally-disturbed loner.

Nov55.com Web Author

Ocean acidification is a direct consequence of increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations. To avoid substantial damage to ocean ecosystems, deep and rapid reductions of global CO2 emissions by at least 50% by 2050, and much more thereafter are needed.

Sorry Tom... an unemployed, and mentally disturbed "mushroom researcher".

His self promotion of his own book is unseemly.

pH is a sliding scale. Pregnancy isn't. Stupid analogy.

And, yes, adding neutral water to acidic HCl (which is the idiot's way of doing it), moves the sliding pH scale more towards the alkaline end. You can say it's less acidic or more basic. To argue that minor diffence is moronic.

Still don't care about your made up global warming.

Why do you want me to care?

Are you afraid of dying from heat stroke?

I never made a comment one way or another about AGW, scrotum. I merely pointed out a fact on the pH scale that nitpicking morons were arguing about.

I don't give a flying fuck what you care about.

Businesses and Ivanka pressuring Trump to stay with Paris Climate agreement. I guess not everyone thinks this is "made up".

If Ivanka supports it, look for Trump to support it, now, sorry deniers.

I know you think you are being extraordinarily clever but Gary Novak is a bright guy, I don't always agree with him but he is not some kind of loony as you wish to portray him as.

I could portray you as a stalker for hounding a woman and leaving here in disgrace some years back.

Anyway, here is an article by Dr. Gary Novak. It seems eminently reasonable to me, it is nothing short of the utmost chicanery and voodoo to use computer climate models as evidence. I don't know other branch of science that indulges in such obvious fraud. I don't need to be a climatologist to understand the basic tenets of the scientific method, so you can stop being so fucking patronising and odious. Do us all a favour and climb back under a rock and go study it!!
