They do when they don't work dipshit. But maybe you think they are 100% effective
They do prevent pregnancy to a large degree. Nothing is 100% except the stupidity of some posters here.

You go out of your way to show your ignorance. There is one method that is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. It works every time it is tried
Are you advocating anal sex?

Tom.......I can't explain how funny this post is.
ILA, I think you're posting that on the wrong thread. You should really be posting it on bravo's "I'm so glad conservatives are so civil & polite" thread.
Darla's standard response seems to be that it is cultural imperialism to interfere or even highlight the awful conditions for people in other countries including no doubt children forced into sex slavery in India and Pakistan. My late brother lived in the foothills of the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh back in the late '80s and he told me about the awful conditions then. Unfortunately much of it is a result of the caste system which is still very part of everyday life for the poor in India. Sati still happens on occasion in India even though it was banned by the British in the early 19th century.
I don't know anyone that is against 'birth control'......as long as you realize that 'birth control' is not abortion....they each mean something different.....
I don't even know if it was illegal at any time.....not talked about of course, not taught to women, but illegal ?....I don't really know.
and we all know that abortion was illegal in times past.....but not anymore.....and will never be again in a democratic country....
Strong feelings are a personal matter....not to be forced on others that have differing strong feelings....live and let live....
You're the clueless one....by comparison to times past, and present times in other countrys and cultures, you live like a fucking queen here in the West, and still bitch like a bitch.
Yes, I'm sure life is just awful for you. I wonder how you would cope planting rice or cutting sugar cane by hand as my wife's family still do in Northern Thailand? It must be terrribly hard deciding whether to shop at Walmart or Costco.
That's ridiculous. I, Darla and other liberals have been complaining about US policies in other countries for as long as we've been on forums. Why do you think the treatment of foreign women doesn't bother us?
Conditions for women in those countries have been awful for centuries. The US may not do enough about it but neither do other countries and you know why? Because people (women) are less important to our governments than resources.
You're against abortion so you should be for condoms. Are you unable to make the connection?
Ladies come up with a solution and you knock it. Why, Bravo? What do you have against women having sex? Come clean. Be straight about it or are you not "straight" and, therefore, don't give a damn? Give us some insight into your way of thinking because I'm not the only one who has a problem trying to figure you out.
Oh it isn't like that? What exactly was Sandra Fuck crying about then? Was it women getting their clits cut off?
Let's discuss this practice that started millenia ago (before Islam, just to get that out of the way). Who invented this? Men. Who perpetuates this practice? Men. Who thinks that women's "rampant sexuality" needs to be controlled by genital mutilation? Men. Who thinks that women who don't have this procedure are unclean? Men.
So why don't you and the other haters go after those responsible for genital mutilation, that would be MEN.
The age at which the procedure is performed varies. Comfort Momoh, a specialist midwife in England, writes that in Ethiopia the Falashas perform it when the child is a few days old, the Amhara on the eighth day of birth, while the Adere and Oromo choose between four years and puberty. In Somalia it is done between four and nine years. Other communities may wait until adulthood, she writes, either just before marriage or just after the first pregnancy. The procedure may be carried out on one girl alone, or on a group of girls at the same time.[SUP][33][/SUP] It is generally performed by a traditional circumciser, usually an older woman known as a "gedda," without anaesthesia or sterile equipment, though richer families may pay instead for the services of a nurse, midwife, or doctor using a local anaesthetic. It may also be performed by the mother or grandmother, or in some societies—such as Nigeria and Egypt—by the local male barber.[SUP][30][/SUP]
The WHO divides FGM into four categories (see image right for types I–III).[SUP][2][/SUP] Around 85 percent of women experience Types I and II, and 15 percent Type III, though Martha Nussbaum writes that Type III nevertheless accounts for 80–90 percent of all such procedures in countries such as Sudan, Somalia, and Dijbouti.[SUP][5]

As you know I am not shy blaming the US for many things but I really cannot see how the caste system is the fault of the US. Disgusting practices like child prostitution and sati are indigenous problems. I have seen you post articles over the years but I really cannot remember seeing many other posters male or female posting about them. I have posted links to petitions for causes in the Third World only for them to be met with a wall of apathy.
Actually you do have rice paddies in the US but I believe that they are pretty much all mechanised operations. It is grown mostly in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and California.
Actually that isn't strictly true as often as not the circumcision is done by women.
I get email daily alerting me to the horrific conditions people live under in some countries. This is just a small sample from today, all of them good causes, all of them asking for donations. How much can one person do? Or even one hundred, or one thousand?

The practice was started by men. And yes, it galls me that some women in those countries actually perform the procedure, or turn a blind eye to it because they've been culturally indoctrinated.
