In the head-to-head matchup, Obama leads McCain among African Americans (83-7 percent), Hispanics (62-28), women (52-33), Catholics (47-40), independents (41-36) and even blue-collar workers (47-42). Obama is also ahead among those who said they voted for Clinton in the Democratic primaries (61-19).

Yet among white men — who made up 36 percent of the electorate in the 2004 presidential election — Obama trails McCain by 20 points, 55-35 percent. “That is the reason why this election is close,” Hart notes.

In addition, McCain leads Obama among white suburban women (44-38), group which makes up about 10 percent of all voters that Hart calls “absolutely critical” for both candidates in the fall.

Twenty-two percent say that adding Clinton as Obama’s vice presidential running mate makes them more likely to vote for Obama in November; 21 percent say it makes them less likely to vote for him; and 55 percent say it makes no difference.

So basically Hillary does nothing.

I'm seriously thinking that Obama might want to make a white man no 2. Pacify the racists. For progress, my friends.

Still to early to mean much.

I don't believe that Obama can choose a white woman other then Hillary Clinton. Even though he may want to, it would be percieved as an even bigger slap in the face to Hillary.

The only one there that surprises me is the Hispanic spread. I would have thought that would have been closer.

I new this number was going to be higher than people thought.

McCain and the republicans are not trusted to deal with latino concerns surrounding illegal immigration.

The way the republicans want it done you will end up making a hell out of any latinos life even when they are American citizens.

Kind of funny considering it was McCain and Bush who wanted to allow illegals in the country now stay and earn citizenship, to the sagrin (is that the word?) of many conservatives.

The hispanic vote wasn't as much anti-Obama as much as it was for the Clinton brand, which has been good to them.

I expect this election will shatter all hispanic vote turnout records.

I totally disagree on McCain. McCain has been a supporter of amnesty for illegal immigrants. Though I do agree that most Reps in DC are against that position.

Chagrin

It proves that neither McCain or Bush are any good at pretending to be compassionate.

In fact, Bush is better at it than McCain.

Chagrin, that it is. Thank you.

it was pretending because they couldn't get the legislation passed?

What do you think the democratic stance is on it?

Like I said the latinos dont trust the republicans to deal fairly with the latino population.

But you brought a good point to mind .. McCain is even worse at pretending than Bush.

Bush has some, few but some, likeable qualities about his character .. McCain doesn't have any. His parodies on SNL is as close as he's come to looking human.

this is very true. They were trending toward Republicans but from most of the latino centric news I've seen indicates that they are going back to the dems.
