Name one thing you agree with the opposing side on.

I gotta agree with RB on that, Stone.

The hypocrisy IS unmistakable in this thread.

But to be honest, the HYPOCRISY of the American right is UNMISTAKABLE in almost every thread and every venue.

They simply cannot help but be hyprocritical. That is the only way to arrive at where they want to end up.

Don't you have a dictionary?

Yes, but Conservatives seem to have different definitions of Socialism.
When they're denouncing the welfare state, social programs are Socialism. When they're told that European welfare states are doing better than America, suddenly it's only Socialism if there is collective ownership, and the Nordic countries are Capitalist.
So you'll have to forgive me if I'm not sure what counts as Socialism this week. Is Obama still a Socialist?

I don't know what two faced "conservatives" that you speak of. To me, if it's not enumerated in the Constitution, then the federal government shouldn't be involved. For example the post office. That is a socialist institution by definition, but it's forced to compete with private carriers and is largely self-funded.

So what makes a country Socialist? What qualifiers must it have?

I agree with Trump's staff that they have to work around him and treat him like a child to get things done. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/robe...e-terminology-memo_n_5c724378e4b03cfdaa55f93d Trump is not too bright. The few experts he stiil has around are circumventing his ignorance and the leaders he is talking to cannot help laughing at him.

That's why I cringe when people say we can't impeach Trump, because Pence would be worse. Pence might be horrible, but at least he could do the job. He's the kind of horrible we've dealt with before.

It's a matter of degree. We have some socialism here in the US. I think it should be less.

I don't think the Federal government should undertake ANY socialist program other than what is mandated to it by the Constitution. Medicare, health care, social security, etc, should be the purview of state and local governments, or preferably, the people themselves. That let's California be California and Texas be Texas.

I always ask myself the same questions if my state or municipality were to consider a socialist program. Does it encourage slackers? Is it generally fair across all income levels? Is it taking business away from a privateer? The answers have to be no, yes, and no for me to support it.

So was Fox News wrong about Obama being a Socialist?

Yes. Obama was a straight down the middle capitalist. That is why he pissed off a bunch of leftys. He did not punish bankers for the crash they caused and let them slowly get back to where they were. He was very centrist in policy. It is just Fox and right wing scare sites that created the beliefe that he was a far lefty. He was not. But rightys do not think for themselves. If Fox and Breitbart say it, it is true.

Totally true. As a real Leftist, I wish Obama was even half as left as Fox said he was.

I don't care about the opinions of FNC pundits. Instead I form my opinions of The Obama on what he said himself:

“Only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe. Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy.”

He is definitely a socialist.

So is that what defines a Socialist? It's someone who wants to use the government to fix economic problems?

Another is that the government owns the means and production of goods (the companies) of the land...for the benefit of the common good.

Hello ThatOwlWoman,

You're welcome. It's particularly useful in cases where you have an ugly troll following you around trying to start shit, who has nothing to add to any discussion they appear in. Pro Tip: Copy the hidden post (see example below) to really piss them off. lol

Example:

This message is hidden because Grumpy is on your ignore list.

That's no pro tip. That's just petty. If you no longer wish to see a poster's comments the best thing to do is get over caring what they post - about you or anything else. Once you're beyond caring they are done bothering you, powerless over you. At that point you are in total control. There is nothing to be gained in taunting those on your IgList. That's just clinging to the past. Placing somebody on Ignore is the time to leave them and all their negative energy behind and move on. At that moment you transcend to a more refined posting experience.

Taunting other posters is called abuse.

Makes it hard to claim you're the victim when you're dishing it up too.
