My Faith in Public educators is lost!

Remember when following the rules and doing what your teachers told you was a good thing?

I remember that....that was before the leftist/communist/socialist takeover of the public school system....some years ago now....
way back when a kid could wear a shirt that said "God Bless America" and "American Pride" and such sayings....
probably before your time.

You're a liar; but then you are a Libtard, you can't help it.

If a teacher abused children, they got arrested you lying ass clown.

Nope...she's telling the truth.

I witnessed the very same thing back when corporal punishment was allowed.

Now, if you'd like to present some actual evidence to back your claim, maybe we can talk...but "you're a liar" ain't gonna cut it.

Its right wing minded control of kids, fool, not schools in general that are the ones who want kids to act like clones

I added a couple of commas in the above for clarity. If I am wrong in the intent of the statement please tell me. As to wanting kids to act like "clones," I would say that is not the case. But kids must learn some sort of self control and learn how to obey rules. In a civilized society there are ,in fact, rules to follow. If children are not taught to follow rules (notice, there is nothing in this about acting clone-ish) they will possibly (and in some cases, very likely) wind up incarcerated in adulthood. Now, if you don't like a rule (and I don't like this one) there are proper ways to go about getting it changed. This goes to Zappa's point and I agree with him on this. If this is indeed the rule then the kids should have followed it. Lobbied (worked through the right channels, petitioned, etc.) to try to change it, but obeyed it in the mean time.

remember when the teachers could actually do something about it?

I do something about it. I use a cedar paddle, 1/2 inch thick and 2 ft. 4 in. long by 4 inches wide. In this I'll disagree with Rana and Zappa. I teach at a public school. We still use corporal punishment and our parents support it to the tune of 95+%. At the beginning of the year parents can opt thier kids out of it and it is extremely rare that they do. It is extremely effective at modifying behavior if not abused....and guys I disagree with on, I do know it is abused. I also understand that I live in a community that is still back in time. Shoot, for most of these kids if they get a paddling at school they can expect the same when they get home. That will sound familar to some folks on here too.

After making the previous two posts, I feel the need to clarify that I haven't read up on this particular case so I do not know everything about what is going on. I am taking Zappa's word for it that the boys violated the dress code. I do not agree with the dress code if that is the case but rules are rules and there are proper ways to go about changing them. Here is our dress code:

Students are expected to dress in a manner that is proper to the business setting of the school. Any attire which draws undue attention to the individual or in any way interferes with the educational process is not appropriate for school. Students are expected to wear full shirts, shoes, and other colthing necessary to safety and good grooming. The following are examples of unacceptable clothing: see-through clothing; T-shirts or sweatshirts with ethnic, racial, or sexual slurs, or having vulgar or suggestive expressions or logos or that show disrespect for the American flag or T-shirts with beer or tobacco advertising; midriff tops, half shirts, jeans with holes, tank tops, bike shorts, leggings, lace or otherwise. Shorts and dressed may be worn not higher than the superior border of the patella (top of the kneecap) while standing in an upright position. No sleeveless shirts. No headware will be worn inside the school buildings. Headwear may not be taken to classrooms. ONLY EXCEPTIONS: You may wear your cap to the baseball or softball fields and to the Vo-Ag shop.

Yes, child abuse is all too familiar to many. My favorite part of these conversations is when they invariably turn to who got beaten worse. I have been in office and other settings where that broke out. I remember one lady talking trumping everyone with a coat hanger story, and she was up against a great "my dad loved me so much he wore his arm out using his strap on me" story. It's cool because they all always end by saying "my parents loved me!". THat's how you know they've internalized abuse as love, and that is also always the answer to why their lives are so fucked up.

Which, they always were.

So yeah, it sounds familiar alright.

Wow that has nothing to do with the thread so go away!

Sounds like the kids should have been allowed to wear the shirts to me... Id like to see a photo of the shirts and know the reason behind the rule against the lettering.

oh and we should take your's and her word for the fact you saw it happen, bwa ha ha ha, one of your dope smoking friends like dude probably took a swing at the teacher, and were put in their place. I was paddled on two occasions, deserved it on one of the two occasions, and it straightened me out, and when my father found out, I got it again at home and I am just fine.

Oh my Gosh quit with the absolute drivel, my brothers and I were all spanked and two out of three made something out of themselves one didn't he is a raging alcoholic. He made bad decisions growing up, was disciplined, and decided the consequences were worth it, nothing else. Got an issue get a tissue you bleeding heart liberals, our prison systems are full because of a lack of discipline at home and at school. Please send the police to my house I will tell them either, I can discipline them now or you can do it in a few years when they come to see you.

LOL..."my daddy beat me til it raised welts...but he did it because he LOVED ME."

No, he did it because he was a coward picking on those weaker than him.

Zappa, leaningright and myself all know it can be abused, I guess you are the one in denial.

I just admitted that in one case I did not deserve the paddling, I still made it in life ok, no law suits, no whining to my parents, because my parents would have said well you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The rules clearly state:

...“Patriotic Day,” allowing students to wear white T-shirts with American flags on them.

Flags...no slogans.

The kids decided to violate the rule by coming to school wearing shirts bearing slogans.

Yes i believe in corporal punishment in schools, I would the the BOARD of education.
Well if you don't like it why don't you live up to your civic responsibility and attend your local public school board meeting and voice your concerns?

Undermining public education due to some mindless right wing ideology is the height of stupidity. If you don't like how your public schools are working......here's a novel suggestion. Try doing some work to fix it.
