Mrs. Santorum

Yes and so do I, having been brought up as a Catholic as I've already stated. Any doctor would try to save both but as Mott is saying, if there was a choice between saving the baby or the mother many would choose the baby.

thus confirming the obvious.....you're lying.....

Well what the hell else did you think he meant?

what he meant is obvious......he wasn't going to abandon the effort to save the life of the child.....there's no reason to pretend he meant he was going to let the mother die, unless you're a liberal trying to make people believe stupid things about Catholics.........

Considering the current State of the Republican party and assuming Romney wins the nomination I'll be very interested in who Romney picks as a running mate. McCain's choice of Palin probably did more to lose the election for him then any other blunder he may have made.

Maybe Romney should consider a double Mormon ticket? I have huge respect for John Huntsman. Mitch Daniels of Indiana maybe? Is it presumptious to begin discussion of his possible running mate?

This is a political discussion website. We will probably start speculating on 2016 sometime in November this year.

I doubt Huntsman just because two Mormons would give too much fodder to those who wish to use 'fear of Mormons' in their campaign against Romney.

McCain's choice of Palin seemed like a good idea... until she started having to actually answer questions... then it blew up in his face.

Personally I would go with someone like Meg Whitman. I think others that will be on the 'short list' are Rubio, Haley, Daniels, Pawlenty. I doubt he would go with Johnson, but that would be another good pick. Pandering to the base is a mistake. I think they are so desperate to get rid of Obama that they will show up to the polls anyway. So he would be smart to pick a moderate Rep. Whitman would be my first choice, Johnson second. Given Whitman supported Romney in 2008, I can see him having her on his short list.

I really don't know much about Santorum personally, he is too far to the right for my tastes... that said, if someone could post where he stated he was against abortion even in the case where the mothers life was in danger, I would like to read up on it.

That said, Romney is going to win the nomination, so as long as he doesn't pander to the base and put someone like Santorum on the ticket with him, I could care less what Santorum's views are.

He states here that if abortion was made illegal then all the doctors and nurses should be convicted.

Speaking with Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s Situation Room, former Sen. Santorum said it is his hope that, should abortion be made illegal, there would be criminal penalties for all doctors and nurses involved in such procedures.
“If abortion is against the law … to abort a child and take a human life … then it should have some criminal penalties, of course,” said Santorum. “Laws are in place right now…that if you’re someone who would punch a woman in the stomach who has a child and cause that child to be miscarried, you can be charged with criminal activity. And so we say that you can charge someone with criminal activity and nobody gets offended by that. Why? Because the law protects that child.”

well, to be honest, he said that if abortion was illegal, doctors and nurses that broke the law should be convicted......I would think that much would be obvious......

about some Catholic doctor saying he would let the mother die to save the unborn child.....

I am talking about the past and they didn't say it, they just did it. They would have considered it to be God's will as the alternative would be to kill the child which would be against everything they were taught.

Well if it were made illegal, it would make sense to prosecute those who broke the law. But does he say it should be illegal in all cases? Even if the woman's life is in danger?

He was implying more than that but using mealy mouthed weasel words instead. He obviously wants abortion to be banned but couldn't come out and say it directly.

Yea.....I know most of my Catholic class mates in high school attended Catholic grammer schools and had a very healthy fear for the Penguins. Since I didn't have that experience I had no fear of them and the nuns who taught in my high school in rural Ohio were uniformly well educated and highly skilled educators. I got along with them quite well but then again I didn't have to share their beliefs.

Time for a personal tale.

I had a nun as a teacher in high school. One day she was passing out the tests she had corrected and as she called out the student's name they would go to her desk at the front of the classroom and receive their test. So, she called my name and I went up to her desk and, like everyone else, put out my hand to take the test from her.

"How dare you!", she bellowed.
Stunned, having no idea what I had done, I just stood there with a quizzical look on my face.
"How dare you put out your left hand to me!", she continued. "Now, put out your right hand and I'll give you your test.

Well, needless to say, as a left-handed individual I was royally pissed off.

"Keep the test", I replied in a rather loud voice.

Well, I ended up in the hall and then the Principal's office. I was asked if my being Protestant had something to do with my attitude to which I replied I didn't care what religion a person practiced. Due to my parents having instilled a sense of self-worth in me I replied that if accepting something with my left hand offended someone they could keep whatever they were offering.

I returned to class the next day and all was "forgotten". Meanwhile, my girlfriend had the same nun for Moral and Social Development (MSD). One day after class we met in the hall and she told me what happened in her MSD group. She had asked the nun something about menstruation and the nun replied, "Ask your boyfriend. I'm sure he knows all about that." :whoa:

Anyway, the school year continued under, more or less, a cease-fire.

The following year, one day I was sitting on a park bench outside the school (it was a country school with large grounds) having my lunch alone and that same nun came to sit beside me. I could have sworn she was a completely different person. It was fall time then and most days were too cool to be just sititng outside but on the warm days she'd see me and come by for a chat. My friends found it quite humorous as I used to drive my motorcycle to school so I didn't come across as a "friend of nuns" type of guy. I must admit it did improve my dating life. After all, when I would go to pick up a girlfriend with my motorcycle and the girl had told her parents I occasionally lunched with a nun.....well, ya can't beat those references!

All in all it is a fond memory.

On that note it's time for my siesta. :)

They are emotionally sick after Santorum's victory. They can't believe there are still that many good, decent, honorable citizens still alive in the USA.
