The 'big deal' is that releasing the returns is the standard and Romney thinks he's above it.
The good news is that not releasing them hurts him, and the other good news is that what's in them will hurt him as well, and that's why he doesn't want to release them. So, basically, lose/lose for the sociopath.

what you and mittens are overlooking is that while tax returns are not a constitutional requirement, they have become a custom...and as such even more dangerous to ignore than constitutional requirements in the eyes of independent voters

actually, i live in a blue state (CA) and could care less what mittens does, he will not win my vote or the vote of most californians, in fact i rather hope that he continues to stone wall the issue of his tax returns
and if you think that independents do not care, you are incorrect, some of them do and ask themselves, what is he hiding
people in his own party have said that he does himself no good by not revealing them

Thanks to the hijacking of the Republican party by the far-right nutballs, Democrats are only slightly left of center, but that's unavoidable, given that both parties are inextricably tied to each other via their allegiance to the same masters, the corporate elite.

oh, i used to be a repug not too many years ago until they got hijacked by the chrisitian coalition
they used to be fiscal conservatives and for personal freedom

if they were fiscal conservatives they would raise taxes on everyone while keeping the social contract with the citizens
i am a social progressive and a fiscal conservative and no party serves my interests
i am all for taxing the wealthy, they have had enough tax cuts and produced no jobs, so lets try raising their taxes and see what happens, at least we will not go as far in to debt
lets regulate wall street and the banks (reinstate glass stegall), all the deregulation of the former has produced is a major recession and more wealth for wall street and banks
