Mexico ready to hit the US where it hurts: Corn

Well, you kind of need a wall before you can talk about evidence lol.

Let's stick with the facts since that's what we know. Fact is, the cartels run drugs across the border. Why wouldn't they? They're crooks and they always take the most cost effective route to money---legalities being of absolutely no consideration. The cartels also do a fair amount of human trafficking across the border. Along with the feel-good stories of Mexican immigrants coming here and finding the American dream, there's an equal part of crime and misery that comes along with it. In fact, one could argue we have a moral obligation to put a stop to it for that very fact.

I can't imagine why drug cartels would want Trumps wall. And it's a safe bet the cartels are a big reason Mexico doesn't want the wall, given how the drug cartels have infiltrated the Mexican government.

I haven't come across a reason why Americans shouldn't want it. Can you think of one?

I'm only asking about facts. Where do drugs that are shipped here enter our shores? Of the total that arrive how much of it crosses the Mexican border. Of that how much is walked across the border?

The DEA has this information and they know how drugs arrive here so putting up a wall wouldn't be a shot in the dark. They know what type of effect it would have.

Yes we should do something different. What's being proposed here however is a double down on failure. It's like the war on poverty or issues with schools, instead of changes people say we just need to spend more money.

A wall isn't going to stop drugs from coming here. Ending the war on drugs is the first step in dealing with the drug issue
Make them all legal, problem solved!

Thanks.
I appreciate what may to the under 50 set may be an obscure reference.

"Is there any evidence that shows a wall will slow down the amount of drugs coming into this country or that demand wouldn't be met by a wall?" c #48

There's persuasive, pervasive evidence that it won't.
Earlier this year pounds of illegal drug (cocaine?) was found in the nose cone of a commercial jet-liner.
The illegal drug traffickers:
- hide it in automobiles
- fly it in planes
- transport it in surface watercraft
- transport it by submarine
- carry it in person

And the sanity check that an easily breachable wall won't keep illegal drugs and immigrants out is; we can't even keep illegal drugs our of our jails and prisons.

"There is, but one can also use COMMON SENSE by knowing that by making it HARDER to cross the borders, drugs will also be harder to SMUGGLE." TD

It is a certitude the wall, if Trump ever builds it (much room for doubt on that) will not end illegal drugs or illegal immigrants entering the U.S.
If we can't keep illegal drugs our of our prisons, how would a wall keep them out of a country.

Imagine for example if some evil genius invented some strange device that would empower those that possess it to breach such a wall. And imagine if they gave this strange device a name. Perhaps they'll call it a "LADDER". And perhaps they'll sell them at Home Depot and Lowe's for $89.99 + tax.

Good Lord! This planet is INFESTED with simpletons. And one of them has become president!

"well i'm not going there but the status quo has been a definite failure" c #63

The reason the U.S. is losing the Drug War is because we are waging it.

Drug War violates both Art.3 Sect.3 and Art.6 Sect.2 of the United States Constitution.
Any U.S. federal legislator that's ever voted to fund U.S. Drug War should be arrested, impeached, convicted, and executed summarily by firing squad at a convenient outside wall of the United States Capitol. The bullet holes in the marble would serve as enduring reminder about the consequences of conspiring to Treason against the United States.

Make sure it's not an aluminum ladder in case the wall is electrified at the top lol.

agreed.....thank god they are no longer under the control of liberal appointees.......

DEA corruption transcends party. It's about filthy mamon and being on the take and infiltration. I have spoken with an undercover DEA agent in the 1980s who told me that when progress is made that is too effectual, the stand down comes from above.

The critics think you can dig a tunnel under in an afternoon lol. The reality is it would take considerable time and resources for the cartels dig tunnels. Probably take weeks at minimum. Then they would have to funnel people and drugs through a hole in the ground instead of using Jose's beat up chevy to haul them across.

The cartels do not want it built. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't try and sabotage its construction.

Most heroin comes in through legal border crossings. The wall won't prevent the flow.

Stupid though it was, it was a corn-growing State coup. It drove up the profit margin on farmer's corn harvests.

Several problems:
a) corn is a staple of impoverished persons, particularly Mexican peasants, tortillas etc.

b) It drives up U.S. food prices to add an additional consumer to such commodity.
Corn as food had its own market driven price.
Corn as basis for gasolhol also has a market driven price.
Corn as both food staple AND fuel ingredient drives up the market driven price for both markets, making both fuel and food more expensive.

That's frick in stupid, EVEN if it benefits Iowa corn farmers.

Cellulosic ethanol is fine.
But where 100% and 90% gasoline 10% alcohol are available in the same market, it's the 100% gasoline that gets the lion's share of the market.
Engine manufacturers, particularly small engine manufacturers for carbureted engines, lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, motorcycles, etc. warn in their owner's manuals about the harm gasohol can inflict.

We don't need it.
Get rid of gasohol, and our food prices will drop. Not just on corn. But on food consumers buy that's involved with corn; pork and beef for obvious examples.

"When your demand for corn stays high, the price tends to go up, and your hog farmer gets disgruntled ..." U.S. President Bush (younger) 07/02/14

It's the stupid Al Gorians that have pushed converting food crops into fuel, causing starvation and even triggering the Arab Spring. Thanks Al

Yes.
Thanks for reminding us all what a huge corn-producing State Tennessee is.
And thanks also for reminding us all how entirely irrelevant Republicans are. They never do anything.

You are most welcome, for calling attention to my conspicuous hostility against the grass family.

Oh!

Will the maple trees ever forgive me ?!?!

Trumps new homeland security guy John Kelly is a mental midget if one recent anecdote is any indication. He came to visit San Diego and went to the San Ysidro border when coincidentally they found a giant tunnel under the wall there. He said, "I would argue this shows walls work because otherwise they would not spend a fortune to tunnel under it" Hey Einstein, what about the fact that a tunnel under a wall shows that tunnels defeat a wall?

It's not a WALL, it's a fence.
I wish everyone would get their facts straight.

Did the Berlin Wall keep people out or in?

No, thank you for proving you're a racist. Thank you for proving that Al Gorians don't care if people starve to death. Thank you for proving that Al Gorians hate the poor.
