Many dead in Florida high school

So many of the gunners here have mentioned how they started shooting when they were young and were often given rifles as gifts. So I was wondering if they think an AR-15 is the kind of gun you would give to a child.

LR would be a good one to ask that question too.

every single one I have seen mentioned receiving the same thing......a single shot .22 rifle......course, when we were kids there weren't AR15s around.....I know my son has (had) one......not sure if he sold it, he mentioned someone at work had offered him a lot more than he had into it.......never had one in my hands, myself.....

Every gun-humper here, ever.

Liberals never have come up with a realistic solution.

I wouldn’t give them one as a gift. If I liked to shoot them I’d have one for them to use but not to have unsupervised. I personally don’t like them even for target shooting. But I see lots of them when I go to the public range used by men, women, boys and girls of all ages. Many of them are just a 22 LR And of course there’s the 223’s. Neither provide much kick (recoil) so they’re relatively easy and fun to shoot. But I wouldn’t give my kid one.

I wonder how many school kids have AR-15s given to them by their parents.

My cousin gave his son one for Christmas. He knows he cannot touch it without my cousin being there, (it's locked up, anyway) and he's not a bad shot for an 11 yr. old.

I was trying to be more diplomatic in the first post. I've posted with Zap for 15 years or more. We all come to boards like this for different reasons, to each his own. Getting involved in discussions on issues isn't his M.O. I saw the post he's talking about. He posted a couple of ideas and people responded as happens in a discussion. Because people didn't agree with him he's claiming they laughed at him or mocked him or whatever it was. No, that wasn't the case. And again, one shouldn't post here if they can't take disagreement.

There are a number of issues where it's hard to find agreement, guns definitely being one. But just because this board has people who are so strongly pro or anti it doesn't mean the rest of the country is.

Interesting and thoughtful response. I especially like the last part it's a good point. Good on you man.
