You want to put an enormous tax on American consumers and you want to eliminate jobs for those who companies focus on exports. And market forces in your scenario will not bring down prices.
Trade is how a country grows. Smoot Hawley type tariffs are how you crush an economy. You don't seem to want to learn from history and want a repeat of that for this century.
I didn't say taxes, I said temporarily higher consumer costs on goods that are imported. I didn't say protectionism, I'm saying free trade should also be reasonable trade that benefits America.
Are you going to commit suicide if consumer goods at Walmart rise? That's not a tax, it's a reality if Trump levels the trading field for the benefit of more American jobs. And as I said, those prices will come down again via competition on the open market.
