Jailed former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is suffering from depression, anxiety and “severe gout” while behind bars, his lawyers say in new court filings.

Manafort is being kept in solitary confinement “to ensure his safety” but the conditions “have taken a toll on his physical and mental health,” his attorneys wrote in a document made public Tuesday.

In the future, Manafort will be viewed as a political prisoner. Financial crimes and political crimes do not rate solitary confinement. Even Manafort's age dictates that he should not be thrown into the general prison population.

Weiner, who sexually communicated with a minor, was confined to a federal, "medical facility."

long term solitary for non-violent inmates is cruel and unusual punishment. This is a white collar victimless crime

He's getting healthcare in prison.. How would they protect him in the general population? Don't they have an obligation to keep him safe?

he's not getting healthcare if he developed gout.
Lot's of people talk about prisoners rights in regards to diet and religion; but keeping people in cages is inhuman.
I wouldn't even do it to any simian

It's their problem to solve - but nobody cares so they get away with it

I don't know much about gout, but I'm sure that a prison diet isn't rich or gourmet.


Your body produces uric acid when it breaks down purines — substances that are found naturally in your body.
