Texas High Schools are laid out as a series of Classroom buildings with campuses that include sporting areas like Ball Fields, Tennis Courts, Huge Football Stadiums, Gymnasiums, Olympic size swimming pools, Auditoriums, parking lots for students, teachers, and buses, Band Halls, and the size of these High School campuses are often times a whole square mile of real estate or more.

There is just no way to reduce access to doorways through one portal.

Argument of the Stone fallacy. Ashamed of what? The NRA?? They support the safe use of guns. They condemn acts like the individual that shot up a school. Did you know the police generally support the NRA?

My friend. I'm having a bit of a crisis. Are you sane? I will admit I am "borderline". What I can't understand is the abject cruelty demonstrated from some of the members here. I came from a moderated site, but.. people would not have been sanctioned for saying stuff like, "Police had no obligation to protect the children" or.. "you're politicizing this, shame on you". I've also had 2 death threats so far!

I came from a moderated site, but the stuff I listed above, other than the death threats would have been ok on DP.

Am I imagining that this is a site made up of mostly cynical people and people only wishing to troll? I've had very few meaningful conversations with anyone besides you.

One of my friends just joined from my previous site, but I've only seen her once and she didn't respond to my PM.

I might have to bounce and go somewhere else. I need smart people to chat with and there are very few here.

There are actually a large number of decent ppl here that you can have actual political discussions with, without the stupid name-calling, threats, etc. We also have a large thread that's just for civil conversation, chit-chat, etc. although politics as always sneaks in, and that's okay too. There are really practical steps that schools can take:
* eliminate 'gun free' zones. They clearly don't work.
* allow staff to carry a gun if they want to.
* require at least one staff member to be always armed, and his only duty in such a situation is to eliminate the threat as soon as possible.
* metal drop slats that can be triggered from a control in the office.
* security cameras, both in hallways and observing school property.
* police departments responsive to the situation (Uvalde police were not, despite being only seconds away).
* solid doors on each classroom, that can be locked by the instructor from the inside.
* better first aid training, including the use treatment of chest wounds (and having the equipment in each classroom!).
* elimination of criminal 'catch and release' programs.
* hold anyone sponsoring or encouraging such shootings responsible. Yes, this means you, Democrats!

You're not very smart, are you. We're talking about doors exiting from the school building, not each individual classrooms. And, in many classrooms where I teach, there's a door to the hallway AND a door to the outside. Your steps listed above ARE NOT practical. Nice try, Marjorie?
