losing dem majority in 2010

The lines are kind of drawn on the gun vote. Anyone who is very passionate about owning them & believes there is a "slippery slope" related to gun legislation, and who has this at the top of their agenda for elections, is likely not voting Democrat, anyway.

'94 was a healthcare backlash vote.

It's my 2nd priority issue and I voted Democrat.

I think a lot of people like me who wouldn't normally vote Democrat did because Obama barely mentioned gun control and went out of his way to affirm the Heller decision last summer. I will be looking into this to get the facts, but I am extremely disappointed to hear that the Democrats have decided to squander their majority and political capital on such a senseless infringement of our constitutional rights. I will be voting straight ticket Republican in 2010 if this goes anywhere.

I'll save this post for the cops.

you do that. i'm not worried about it. It's not against the law to threaten lethal force in protecting my constitutional rights. It's also not against the law to use lethal force against cops to protect myself from unlawful arrest.

I will not be surprized if you are one that will go all Murrah building on us.

Is this your new talking point that you will subsequently be beating to death?

'oh you is gunna go all murrah building on us'... hint: it is already old and tired.

I say why fight it.

Americans are paranoid people .. thus gun-stupid. Let them have their guns.

Let everyone who wants one have guns. Many guns including assault weapons.

Most gun deaths are suicides anyway .. let them kill themselves if they want to.

Besides, with the right-wing and Glenn Beck begging for war against people they don't agree with, those who don't agree with them should arm themselves so they can assist the police and military in shooting back.

From the last paragraph of the article:

"The fact of trying to get everyone in a country as large as the United States or Canada to register their firearms is a very costly venture and one that will not achieve its objectives."

That read I must say this: Every gun that I have bought in the last 20 years has been registered with the government. Every one. It's the law. The only way to find unregistered guns in this country is to find those bought pre-registration days or those on the black market.

all handgun buyers must fill out the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms' Form 4473, which remains on file with
the federally licensed firearms dealer (along with a notation of the
transaction in a bound book with numbered pages) who sells the gun.
If more than one handgun is purchased at a time, a Multiple Purchase
form is filled out, and forwarded to the BATF for their records.
Firearms transaction records of legitimate licensed dealers, though
stored in this decentralized paper-based manner, are still readily
accessible and traceable by law enforcement on request, if, for
instance, a gun used to commit a crime needs to be traced to its
original point of sale. The records include the gun make, model,
caliber, and information about the original purchaser, as well as the
gun's unique serial number. Wholesale transactions, between dealers
and manufacturers (or importers), and among dealers, are noted in the
bound book, so tracing a firearm involves calling the manufacturer
and tracing it down through these records to the point of sale. All
weapons covered by the National Firearms Act of 1934 (see Appendix I)
are recorded by the BATF in their centralized National Firearms
Registry. If a licensed dealer goes out of business, all records of
its firearms transactions are acquired by the BATF, but the Bureau is
forbidden by law from computerizing these records so as to create a
national registry of non-NFA weapons. (Nevertheless, the Bureau's
current policies, such as raising the licensing fees, have driven many
dealers out of business, and the Bureau is now working to computerize
the records of defunct licensees, a direct violation of the expressed
intent of Congress, and Federal law. The BATF, in its defense, claims
that it is merely using its computers to index the paper records, and
not compiling them into a centralized list of non-NFA weapons and their
purchasers.)

He claims he's a Marine. Aren't they supposed to obey orders from their Commander in Chief?

Very likely the same for me too, though I didn't vote Dem or Repub in the last election.

What matters is not who votes or how they vote, but who COUNTS the votes.

Registration will prevent crime because rightwing gunlovers will know that we know who they are.

That is the point of this type of registration law.

Its easy as hell to resell a gun now days with NO trace

Tax and register the guns, serialize bullets, confiscate the unregistered guns and put the gunlovers who resist away for life.

all of this means crap when I buy from private sellers, not dealers. the ATF has no idea what guns I own.

I have guns that aren't registered either. Heirlooms and guns that I have bought privately or traded. I think the private trade (whether barter or cash) of guns is what they want eliminated. It's idiotic.
