Looks like Gorsuch will be confirmed

Dems get enough votes to filibuster Supreme Court nominee

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats now have enough votes to try to block Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch with a filibuster, setting up a showdown with Republicans who plan to confirm him anyway.

The crucial 41st vote came from Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware who announced his decision Monday as the Senate Judiciary Committee met to vote on Gorsuch's nomination.

Coons said that he had decided to oppose President Donald Trump's nominee over concerns that include his vague answers in his hearing.

Coons' opposition will prevent Republicans from reaching the 60 votes they need to move Gorsuch over procedural hurdles to a final Senate vote. Determined to confirm him despite Democratic objections, they will likely change Senate rules later this week to reduce the threshold from 60 to a simple majority.

Gorsuch should be confirmed, he is going to be a net gain for liberals as he is not as Conservative as Scalia was.

The Democrats need to save their fire power in case someone like Ginsberg dies in the next two and a half years.

every tracking chart I have seen puts him to the right of scalia. This isn't another roberts. There is a reason hard core conservatives love this guy.

He's going to faithfully interpret the constitution which means conservative. If liberals don't have a problem with a non-activist then I suppose people like you can be happy as well.

No judge is ever going to get full approval in a country as ripe with partisanship as this one. But within that context Gorsuch has a high level of respect even among those whose views aren't the same.

And after he's appointed, we can start working on the next 2 or maybe even 3 Trump appointees.

:evilnod:

democrats are overplaying their hand. you guys are gonna be sorry if ginsberg croaks. I can hear the outcry now about how we should replace her with another woman or something lol. Liberals literally never leave kindergarten thinking.

Grind is one of the internets most beloved and influential political thinkers and deep-level theorists in the modern era.

That shit cracks me up every time I read it. ;0) Thanks

IF republicans are still I control of the Senate, what guarantees would democrats have that republicans won't use the nuclear option on subsequent SC appointments? How about NONE?

You're a conservative .. home to the worst excuse for a president in history .. an orange embarrassment and WWE Hall of Famer :0) who likes to gran women by the pussy.

"Kindergarten thinking?"

:rofl2:

You are one funny dude.

I guess you missed an entire year where conservatives said that Scalia HAD to be replaced w/ a conservative, because he was such an icon. As though the founders ever intended the SCOTUS nomination process to work that way.

You have blinders on, constantly.

The left could do a lot worse than Gorsuch. At least he seems committed to upholding Roe, and doesn't seem political.

That said, I get the Dem anger about Garland. The way the GOP handled that was terrible. And we have a new precedent now on these things, which I don't think anyone really wants.

Miguel Estrada.

Extralegal opinions are bad for the Constitution, and that is the sort of jurisimprudence that is in vogue with the left.

I repeat, this has nothing to do with the Constitution .. even as outdated as it is.

This is political warfare .. great for the country and the Constitution .. even as outdated as it is.

No. What our confirmation process is nothing like the Founders envisioned. It has descended to this since Bork

But you never have criticism for the left when it comes to these shenanigans.

I however have always been consistent. I believe that a President should get their nominees. I think Merrick should have gotten an up and down vote. But that is the game that the democrat party started with Bork.

Now you can suck it

Bzzzzt! Wrong. I didn't like what happened w/ Bork, and I don't like that they're trying to block this one. As I said earlier, I get the anger, but it's misplaced and this is a poor strategic move on their part.
