Looks like GM is done!

This is not an apple to apples conversion anyway. I would love a hybrid, I would love a Japanese van. The reason I don't have one like many is because of affordability. I buy what is cheap because that's what I can afford to buy.
So saying that because Japanese automakers have success with hybrids (given that they already cater to a richer more upscale market) and pretending that American car makers (who cater to a poorer client) could have the same success, is not true.

Shit nobody's waiting on hybrids no, Jarod have you been play dead for a year?
The CEO of Auto nation this week said he had way to many Prius's on the lots.

I was pissed this morning, when I heard Ford might be upping their ethanol limits from 10-15%. Everyone knows bio-fuels are wrong, yet they just keep on doing it.

unfortunately Detroit is as fat and slow as Rush. They put their plans in place a few years ago when dems were pissing their pants over $3 gas.
Now gas is down and they just launched the ship.

I think we should all pretend that gas will remain at relatively low prices forever. That seems like good policy.

Nobody is saying that. How bout Washington assumes their medical liability and puts massive tarrif's on imports.

Any offset for 'expensive' oil will not be coming from bio-fuels. Corn went up at the news. Of course, Obama supports it, being from Illinois.

Good, following Rush Linbaugh's advice and consentrating on gas guzzling tanks instead of seeking high efficency, alternate fuel, hybreds did not pay off for them!

Uh huh... It has nothing to do with $4,000 per car, going directly to UAW benefits, or consistently trailing the Japanese for the past 4 decades in quality and reliability. It has nothing to do with upper-level management flying around on corporate jets to beg for money, so they can refurbish their offices.... It doesn't even have anything to do with the stock market's historic drop in the past year... nope... it's all because Rush Limbaugh told the corporation to build big cars, and they just followed his advice like a bunch of blind sheep, even though he has no expertise in the automotive industry, no access to consumer data for the automotive industry, and no interest or power in the industry itself.

Jarod??? What the fuck do you smoke??? Seriously! --I got to get me some of that shit!!

In short, you don't understand what "market share" means.

The market share dropped as they went down by a larger percentage in sales. One follows the other. Previous to the price decrease, a higher percentage of the market went to the hybrids than after the decrease. (marketshare).

Market share is figured by what percentage of sales are made up of that product. Since it is lower after the price decrease it directly means that the hybrids had a smaller market share.

DH's point is valid. It's only 3 cars. And it appears Prius dropped less than older tech cars.

Sales of the leading hybrid, Toyota's Prius, which has no gasoline equivalent, fell 28.6% last month vs. January last year, Autodata says. That was less than Toyota's 31.7% overall drop but a far cry from last summer when dealers had waiting lists for Prius.

His point was made defending Jarods orginal assertion that the American companies should have done more hybrids and less SUVs (which I am sure he was hinting at government with Dems having some involvement in moving in that direction).
As I pointed out, people with more money buy Japanese cars and so the hybrid market which is also more expensive cars would sell better for Japanese car buyers. One giant reason people buy American is because they are cheaper.
