As disturbances entered a third day, the scale of civil disobedience reached unprecedented levels, with incidents in all corners of the capital.

The violence, which began in Tottenham, north London on Saturday spread south and east to Brixton, Streatham, Walthamstow, Edmonton, Enfield, Oxford Circus and Islington on Sunday.

By last night further outbreaks of disorder involving hundreds of hooded yobs had taken place in Hackney, Clapton, East Ham, Lewisham and Clapham Junction. Property and shops were set on fire in Peckham and Croydon.

David Cameron last night announced he would cut short his family holiday in Italy to return to deal with the crisis.

Earlier, Boris Johnson, the London mayor, was forced into an embarrassing climbdown when he announced that he too was coming back hours after his deputy said that to do so would be to reward the rioters.

Other residents who witnessed people carrying off carpets, trainers and watches noticed that they included individuals of all “colours and creeds”, suggesting an outburst of sheer lawlessness rather than righteous retaliation for past racial slights.

Videos of the riots show the same. Might be a 60/40 split blacks and whites but whatever.

Did anyone see the clip on TV showing people waiting in line to enter the store giving first come, first "served" a chance to leisurely view the merchandise rather then have a mob in the store.

Ah, say what you will, the Brits are civilized even when it comes to looting. :)

The pictures I saw were all young black dudes.

It seems to be across the spectrum as it were and usually I would be first to suggest the concerns of 'the rioters' should be adressed.
However, in this case, while there may well be an undercurrent of 'disillusionment' among British youth, there is also simple loutishness.
Well, the schoolboy is returning to London from his 10,000 pounds per week Italian luxury to sort it all out!
This is the man who gave us such memorable phrases as 'Hug a Hoody'!
How the hell an Etonian swot could ever begin to understand the British underclass beats me.
The police are, according to some reports, hidebound by 'political correctness' and being held back in case they are accused of racism. Is it racism to beat the living fuck out of rioters when you beat whites, browns and blacks the same?
If I had my way I'd tie them together like the slaves of old and parade them through the streets of London to apologise to everyone, then force the little bastards to rebuild and put right everything they ruined and they would each be given a bill for the repairs and made to repay for the rest of their miserable, drugged up lives.
But then, I've always been a bit of a softy.

That really wouldn't solve the problem. Especially at this stage. It's too long gone, and too large a movement.

It is not a movement. It is simply tweeted gangs having what they think is fun. If there was a movement their problems would have been voiced by now. This is gratuitous violence and thuggery.
There is a problem, certainly. It is the resumption of Aristocratic rule over the poor of Britain. We have gone back to the pre-Wilson era when the 'upper class' saw it as their god given right to rule.
That problem should be addressed in the house of commons and the Labour party need to get their act together (that might be easier said than done) and the nation needs to realised that the Aristocratic class needs to be abolished once and for all.

just a preview picture of what's going to end up happening in the US the longer police are not held accountable for brutalizing the citizenry.

The rioters should KILL THEM ALL! Now is the time, working class! Time for a revolution! Time to take back what is yours, take back for the workers, what has been held for too long by the unrightful owners! Time to establish a Socialist republic!

If you cannot or will not understand then shut up.

Now i'm not one to claim i'm an inner-city dwelling cove dealing with the constant harassment of the 'Feds'. I'm just a normal bloke who'd expect to be battered senseless if i smashed my way into a local shop to get a free telly or a pack of stellas.

I've often complained about the willingness of the police to whip out their batons at peaceful protests, striking chaps who are posing no threat and walking away, that type of thing. I've also witnessed what The Clash described as 'the ring of that truncheon thing' following lower league football. So it's a bit baffling that at this time, when there's universal support for some 'heavy-handed policing' and some real actual violence and criminality to respond to they come over all sheepish, seeming to stand about and watch.

I appreciate London is CCTV'd up to the eyeballs and a whole host of people are going to get the early morning knock, in the coming weeks, to be met with a stony faced judge who will be instructed to hand down sentences well in excess of the norm. But this can't continue.

So here you are policemen everywhere - you've got carte blanche to start fucking people up. Most people will even buy you a pint afterwards.
