Liberty may take a holiday under Trump

Which is one of the biggest reasons so many are freaking out. We’re Americans; we like our liberty. It’s one of the core conceptual foundations of who we are. But Trump doesn’t really care about all that:

1) Freedom of the press: beyond making it his mission to vilify the press, Trump has promised to “open up the libel laws,” paving the way for countless more frivolous lawsuits and intimidating journalists at a time when we need a free press more than ever.
2) Women’s rights: Trump wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, and may just be able to get there w/ SCOTUS appointments. He has even said he’d punish women who get an abortion.
3) LGBT rights: Trump has voiced support for the “First Amendment Defense Act,” which could allow hospitals to refuse to treat LGBT people & businesses to refuse health coverage, among other discriminatory actions.
4) Marijuana legalization: despite strong majority support, Sessions is perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to states rights and the will of the people on this issue. He is strongly anti-pot, and could override state legalization with federal policy, costing 10’s of thousands of jobs, putting countless more in prison and denying medical treatment that works to many.
5) Religious persecution: Trump has talked about Muslim registries, surveillance and (of course) not allowing Muslim travel into the U.S.

And that’s just for starters. Trump is an ends-justify-means guy – he doesn’t care about freedom. This is a chilling time for anyone who values liberty.

That's what I expect him to do .. that's what I want him to do.

I want him to throw every knuckleheaded right-wing idea on the table. I expect that he will also go after Social Security and Medicare .. and he probably has the votes to do it.

Trump is the awareness this nation needs .. badly.

America is not the nation it has pretended to be.

Liable laws and the press ?.....wth makes the press or any media outlet think they liable anyone with out providing proof....

LGBT ? The civil rights and laws we all live under ain't good enough for them ? Men and women use different restrooms, case closed. It don't matter what clothes you wear....lipstick on a pig is still a pig.
Rachel Dolezal, says she 'identifies as black'....she IS NOT black, she has a mental problem
Some mental cases want to have sex with children.....it ain't gonna happen
Other nuts want to marry their dogs or cats....do the rest of us have to bow to the wishes of crazies....in a word, NO !

Muslims are responsible the vast majority of terror attacks and murder in todays world, do we have right to defend ourselves as we see fit, of course we do.
Federal law says using and selling grass and other drugs is illegal....obey the law or change the law...not ignore the law...
Abortion is the law of the land and here to stay, any one that claims the law is in danger is fear mongering for political gain....

Ladies & gentlemen: I give you the average Trump voter.

Can't refute even one of my comments ?....not even one ?.....I"m surprised....

Okay, you fucking moron - here you go:

Libel (not "liable") laws are already restrictive to the press. Trump wants to open them further, flood the courts w/ more lawsuits & essentially paralyze the free press as much as possible.

And LGBT aren't looking for "extra" civil rights, you insufferable imbecile. They'd just like to be able to do stuff like go to a hospital near them in a medical emergency.

Not sure what Rachel D. has to do w/ anything.

No one is suggesting legalizing pedophilia. That is a completely idiotic and irrelevant comment.

Same with marrying dogs. God, you are stupid.

Muslims are not responsible for the majority of attacks in America. Sorry. Just the facts.

Most people support legalization of marijuana, and you're suggesting the the Feds should interfere w/ state's rights, and the will of the people. There, we just disagree - but I guess you're the big fed government guy, so...

Abortion isn't here to stay. Trump wants to have Roe repealed, and likely can.

Personally, I see a lot of 2nd amendment concern as more on the side of irrational, often bordering on hysteria. Outside of their far-left contingent, Democrats aren't out to take everyone's guns, as is often portrayed (and was frequently by Trump this election). It's stuff for demagogues.

As far as restricting gun rights, like I said, the dissenting opinion in Heller was concerning. I don't know; to me, it still seems pretty easy to get a gun as long as your record is clean, and that is certainly unlikely to change anytime soon.

Big article in the NY Times today about Steve Kerr. His dad was assassinated in the ME during the 1980's. Kerr has been a big proponent of gun control. Here is his quote in the article:

In June, at the end of a podcast with Bay Area sports columnist Tim Kawakami, Kerr asked if he could raise one more topic. Our government is “insane,” he said, not to adopt stronger background checks on guns that most Americans agree upon.

“As somebody who has had a family member shot and killed, it just devastates me every time I read about this stuff, like what happened in Orlando,” Kerr said, referring to the June massacre at a Florida nightclub. “And then it’s even more devastating to see the government just cowing to the N.R.A. and going to this totally outdated Bill of Rights, right to bear arms. If you want to own a musket, fine. But come on.”

A) This is an issue I've followed more than the 2nd. SCOTUS can definitely overturn Roe; there have been quite a few 5-4 votes.
B) SCOTUS can never actually overturn the 2nd. They can overturn Roe.
C) Leaningright linked me the Heller case w/ the dissenting opinion. After I read the opinion, I told him I understood the concern more.

We cool?

do you think we can stop liberals from killing children?......

i think you will see a freeer press. One of the things ive always hated about the press its that its limited to a certain club. Newspaper and the cable tv people. Trump's hostility toward standard press and willingness to be interviewed by online press opens up the field for new media to step in.

New media of even better quality than our current ones. The only advantage the establishment media has is access take that away and they have to up their game to retain viewers. Secular talk, Louder with Crowder, TYT, Infowars, they consistently produce content and analysis mile better than the mainstream press. A trump admin would force the press to compete with them.

Infowars? Da Fvck?

A) Roe should be overturned. What gives the woman a right to kill a living being because she doesn't like the results of her choice to spread her legs?

B) The 2nd is an actual amendment. Roe is the result of the Supreme Court saying the Constitution says something for which it doesn't say a word.

Yet in Mass, home of the toughest gun laws in the country save NYC even felons can buy and carry highly accurate and powerful rifles as long as they are muzzle loaders.

And for nearly 90% of my hunting muzzleloaders are what I use. I love them and love to shoot them. There's something gratifying about providing meat for the table with primitive firearms...and modern bows :).

But then the 2nd has nothing to do with what we're allowed to hunt with. I know you know this but am using this response to restate it. I really just wanted to say that I like muzzleloaders...a lot.

Have you ever tried to buy a hand gun?
