Liberty may take a holiday under Trump

Which is one of the biggest reasons so many are freaking out. We’re Americans; we like our liberty. It’s one of the core conceptual foundations of who we are. But Trump doesn’t really care about all that:

1) Freedom of the press: beyond making it his mission to vilify the press, Trump has promised to “open up the libel laws,” paving the way for countless more frivolous lawsuits and intimidating journalists at a time when we need a free press more than ever.
2) Women’s rights: Trump wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, and may just be able to get there w/ SCOTUS appointments. He has even said he’d punish women who get an abortion.
3) LGBT rights: Trump has voiced support for the “First Amendment Defense Act,” which could allow hospitals to refuse to treat LGBT people & businesses to refuse health coverage, among other discriminatory actions.
4) Marijuana legalization: despite strong majority support, Sessions is perhaps the worst thing that could have happened to states rights and the will of the people on this issue. He is strongly anti-pot, and could override state legalization with federal policy, costing 10’s of thousands of jobs, putting countless more in prison and denying medical treatment that works to many.
5) Religious persecution: Trump has talked about Muslim registries, surveillance and (of course) not allowing Muslim travel into the U.S.

And that’s just for starters. Trump is an ends-justify-means guy – he doesn’t care about freedom. This is a chilling time for anyone who values liberty.

You didn't think SCOTUS could do anything regarding guns but you do regarding abortion?

A) This is an issue I've followed more than the 2nd. SCOTUS can definitely overturn Roe; there have been quite a few 5-4 votes.
B) SCOTUS can never actually overturn the 2nd. They can overturn Roe.
C) Leaningright linked me the Heller case w/ the dissenting opinion. After I read the opinion, I told him I understood the concern more.

We cool?

cling to your guns and bibles..I'm sorry but I can only process so much faux outrage in 1 week.
Weed could be opened up -i doubt it;as it is the vast amount of weed arrests are still state; as far as I know distributors in legal states
still get labeled with RICO - but you can be sure you can stone yourself silly either way.

the rest ain't gonna happen.no way is trump going to impose any of this...but I get we still got a month to freak out.

So, more "don't take Trump literally"/he lied throughout the campaign justification.

Got it.

It wasn't an attacking question. It was a question for discussion. I'm not a gun guy so I can't speak in depth on the subject but it does seem like Heller could be overturned and there are people who believe the second amendment doesn't allow the individual right to carry so I don't see that issue as cut and dried and guns rights are protected

he says a lot of junk..some of that is way old ( the Muslin ban) which he's clearly updated - some I never heard of
it must of have in passing. You didn't provide a link, and I'm not going to waste times looking up old campaign moments.

But if you need to freakout - Trump hysteria is a well worn path; enjoy

...he says a lot of lies. Lies that have given his trumpkins that "Jim Jones" effect. Fixed.

Personally, I see a lot of 2nd amendment concern as more on the side of irrational, often bordering on hysteria. Outside of their far-left contingent, Democrats aren't out to take everyone's guns, as is often portrayed (and was frequently by Trump this election). It's stuff for demagogues.

As far as restricting gun rights, like I said, the dissenting opinion in Heller was concerning. I don't know; to me, it still seems pretty easy to get a gun as long as your record is clean, and that is certainly unlikely to change anytime soon.

i think you will see a freeer press. One of the things ive always hated about the press its that its limited to a certain club. Newspaper and the cable tv people. Trump's hostility toward standard press and willingness to be interviewed by online press opens up the field for new media to step in.

New media of even better quality than our current ones. The only advantage the establishment media has is access take that away and they have to up their game to retain viewers. Secular talk, Louder with Crowder, TYT, Infowars, they consistently produce content and analysis mile better than the mainstream press. A trump admin would force the press to compete with them.

I've discussed this with alot of liberals that i know and an overwhelming percentage of them are of the mindset that if they CANT take peoples guns, then they want them restricted to single shot .22s, shotguns for hunting, or if they could go so far, they would do muskets. Try to tell me that's not taking peoples guns, especially considering the actual intent of the 2nd Amendment, which most liberals (and a sizable majority or conservatives) tend to discount.

the ease of acquiring a firearm depends heavily upon the state in which you reside. the difference between buying a gun in texas as compared to new york is immense.

Yet in Mass, home of the toughest gun laws in the country save NYC even felons can buy and carry highly accurate and powerful rifles as long as they are muzzle loaders.

trump hates the press because it exposed him for what he is, a fetid slimeball. His words speak for themselves; nobody put all those hateful comments in his mouth. He believed his money would insulate him from any blowback, and he thinks any American who doesn't worship him is the enemy. He alone put himself in the public eye for 40 years because of his insatiable hunger for adoration, and now he's shocked that all Americans aren't kneeling at his feet.

trump better man up and fast. If he thinks it's bad now, just wait until he foists some of his ugly campaign promises on the country.

Infowars? You have truly gone around the bend, tsuke.

Great, the press is ridiculous and makes up news, it would be good to rein them in as they look to hurt people for a story.

I never understood how anyone could be for murder, the ONLY time I think abortion makes some sense is when a woman is raped or her life might be in danger.

LGBT- give me a fucking break, we should not have to cater to people with chemical imbalances if we choose not to. We don't cater to pedophiles or others with chemical imbalances.

4- I don't care one way or another but I will say Colorado is much more dangerous to ride in since that legislation passed

5- Until radical Muslim faith groups can be identified I have no problem with this.

Liable laws and the press ?.....wth makes the press or any media outlet think they liable anyone with out providing proof....

LGBT ? The civil rights and laws we all live under ain't good enough for them ? Men and women use different restrooms, case closed. It don't matter what clothes you wear....lipstick on a pig is still a pig.
Rachel Dolezal, says she 'identifies as black'....she IS NOT black, she has a mental problem
Some mental cases want to have sex with children.....it ain't gonna happen
Other nuts want to marry their dogs or cats....do the rest of us have to bow to the wishes of crazies....in a word, NO !

Muslims are responsible the vast majority of terror attacks and murder in todays world, do we have right to defend ourselves as we see fit, of course we do.
Federal law says using and selling grass and other drugs is illegal....obey the law or change the law...not ignore the law...
Abortion is the law of the land and here to stay, any one that claims the law is in danger is fear mongering for political gain....
