Liberty is taking a hit

It's funny - Republicans have always made such a big deal about freedom & liberty. But what are we seeing?

- A Trump surrogate calling Japanese internment camps a "precedent," and Trump himself talking about a registry for Muslims.
- A new AG who promises to oppose the will of over 60% of Americans, and the free voting of 30+ states, to take us back to the dark ages on marijuana with tougher punishments and federal overrides of states rights
- A President-elect who has promised to change the make-up of the Supreme Court to one that will set a woman's right to choose back 5 decades.
- Minorities, ethnic groups, religious groups, women & others all fearful of measures like stop & frisk, infringement on basic rights, jail, deportation, discrimination, et al.

Bring on 2020. Trump has ALREADY overreached, and his appointments so far should lay to rest any claims from good ol' Bernie voters that Clinton & Trump were basically the same.

Here is the exchange, word for word....

During an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show, Carl Higbie said a registry proposal being discussed by Trump’s immigration advisers would be legal and would “hold constitutional muster.”

“We’ve done it with Iran back awhile ago. We did it during World War II with the Japanese,” said Higbie, a former Navy SEAL and until Nov. 9, the spokesman for the pro-Trump Great America PAC.
Kelly seemed taken aback by the idea.
“Come on, you’re not proposing we go back to the days of internment camps, I hope,” she said.

“I’m not proposing that at all,” Higbie told her. “But I’m just saying there is precedent for it.”
--------------------------
The 'it' being discussed is the registry for Muslims, not internment camps used by a Democrat President.....

The registry did pass constitutional muster as it was used up until 2011, 3 years into the Obama administration

We did it with Iran and the Japanese during WWII....Immigrants from Iran were registered and Japanese immigrants were registered during WWII....

Not only did he not mention 'internment camps', he clearly stated , "“I’m not proposing that at all,” when Kelly brought it up.....

the "it" being talked about is the registry....which was in effect from 2001 until 2011 and is still on the books....
even if you assume the "it" in the last sentence referred to internment camps, his observation is still valid, that was a precedent set and ordered by President FDR(D)

Clear it up for you or will you still stand by the mis-characterization spun by the liberal media.....
If you reason things out for yourself, instead of relying on the bs of left wing media. even you might come to more logical conclusions

No - it means freedom of religion (ironically, something that the founders were also interested in), the will of the people & a woman's right over her own body.

You're really a stupid person, PMP.

actually, if you think Trump has said anything against freedom of religion, the will of the people or a woman's right over HER body, you are the ignorant one.....but we know you don't think that, so you're just the lying one.......

So who is trying to change someone's religious beliefs or trying to abolish abortion ?

I'm so fucking tired of this kind of ignorance.

Enjoy the next 4 years. It's going to be a party for you reactionaries & bigots. Then, it's over.

Why does the left love Islam so much? It is literally the biggest thing oppressing LBGT and women's rights. Yet utter silence from the left. Very interesting cognitive dissidence the left has to practice every day.

As far as I'm concerned, Trump has reneged already on his 1st promise - to be President of all Americans. This hard-right turn w/ his appointments is genuinely making me sick. Classic overreach, but no consequences for years.

We can start a tally now. There will be many more broken promises before he's done.

Just like with Obama.

I don't love any religion. I think religion kind of sucks for the most part. Except maybe Buddhism; they don't really bother anyone.

But, I'll fight to the death for someone's right to worship as they please. One of the cornerstone principles of America, and one of the main reasons we came into being in the first place.

What do you think they would have made of white supremacists, who have killed many more in recent years domestically than ISIS?

i like you have domestically :) We have this thing called internetz. We actually see whats going on in the world. I think the tipping point for me was when i found out that the actual target of the brussels strike was a nuclear power plant. That freaked me out.
