Liberty is taking a hit

It's funny - Republicans have always made such a big deal about freedom & liberty. But what are we seeing?

- A Trump surrogate calling Japanese internment camps a "precedent," and Trump himself talking about a registry for Muslims.
- A new AG who promises to oppose the will of over 60% of Americans, and the free voting of 30+ states, to take us back to the dark ages on marijuana with tougher punishments and federal overrides of states rights
- A President-elect who has promised to change the make-up of the Supreme Court to one that will set a woman's right to choose back 5 decades.
- Minorities, ethnic groups, religious groups, women & others all fearful of measures like stop & frisk, infringement on basic rights, jail, deportation, discrimination, et al.

Bring on 2020. Trump has ALREADY overreached, and his appointments so far should lay to rest any claims from good ol' Bernie voters that Clinton & Trump were basically the same.

As far as I'm concerned, Trump has reneged already on his 1st promise - to be President of all Americans. This hard-right turn w/ his appointments is genuinely making me sick. Classic overreach, but no consequences for years.

We can start a tally now. There will be many more broken promises before he's done.

btw did sessions promise to overturn marijuana legislation as AG? It seems like the kinda of thing that would be right below appointing Obama to the SC in trumps priorities.

He hasn't said anything about it as AG. He has said a LOT about it prior to today - it's a huge priority for him.

Trump won't care. He has already shown that he's delegating most considerations. He won't do anything to stop Sessions.

So for you liberty means unrestricted terrorism, getting stoned and killing children.....

At this point I agree. I'm beginning to believe his acceptance speech was a lie like all his others, hopefully that is not the case.

I wanted to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, and still do. But this week has really shaken that viewpoint for me. It's not the start I was hoping to see.

And look, to the victors go the spoils. Elections have consequences and all of that. But this cabinet doesn't represent me at all - it opposes me. And I have to be honest w/ myself about that.

I need to get more involved, at least on the local level. I understand a desire to tip the scales back toward the right after 8 years of Obama & Obamacare, but this is too hard of a right turn for me.
