Let's look at the dem candidates for 2020

LV
it is unwise to seek enemies where friends can be found

Look, I get what you're saying. Again, I'm not seeking to make enemies...I'm just letting you older folks know that your time as the focal point of policy and ideation is over. Now comes the time where you slide into support mode for the next generations, just as you've asked these younger generations to do for decades.

We are chomping at the bit to get started, but we can't get moving with doddering old folks with dusty conventional ideas standing in our path.

I think what Pelosi is doing is exactly what needs to happen; set an expiration date for yourself and cede leadership to newer, younger voices.

We were always there for you, so now it's time for you to be there for us.

This might be the most ironic un self aware post I've ever read on this board. I can't stop laughing.

Elizabeth, I'm coming for you

what ideas are those ?
like universal healthcare?
like voter rights?
like the equal rights amendments?
why are you seeking to make us enemies who have no ideas worth viewing?
what if a party did that to you?
would you vote for that party?
stop being knee jerk
we are your equals
a huge chunk of us are on your side
Tell me some ideas you think old people never thought of and are too evil to support
you are being self destructive

You're not listening.

It's about how the Boomer generation worked against the progressive ideas.

We should have had a green energy plan decades ago...in fact, Carter even said we needed it and excoriated the nation for being in a state of malaise.

Carter was 100% right, and his honesty was rewarded with Boomers flooding to Reagan instead of him because Reagan made them feel good about themselves. That is the legacy of the Boomer generation...not universal healthcare (that they never achieved), Voter Rights (that were won in the 60's, before most Boomers were old enough to even vote), Equal Rights Amendment (which was never fully passed, right?), even pot legalization didn't happen until Gen Xers started voting...the Boomer legacy is "Greed is Good".

I never said once that I wouldn't vote for the Democratic Party, and in fact I've never voted Republican once in my entire life, and the first vote I ever cast was for a Democrat (Harshbarger) in the 1998 midterms in Massachusetts. I've voted straight Democrat in every election since, never once voting GOP because I knew way back in the 90's that they were the party of racists and Nazis.

I'm on your side, but sometimes I feel like the Boomers are on their own side and are waging generational warfare.

Again, it’s not all Boomers, McLovin. Merry Christmas

its hate dude
that is all it is
baseless hate
think of it this way
if you said that about some other clustering of Humans what would bit be?
the same fucking thing
hate
OU
"baby boomers should never offer ideas to my party ever again but they should vote for us"
replace baby boomers with any other group of people
how about replacing it your own age group?
I would still be screaming just as hard that it is an evil idea
would you be joining me?
how about if you replaced it with the Jewish Americans?
top
think
you are blowing it and weakening your party

Gen Xers and Millennial voices were not welcome in the party until we forced ourselves in.

And even now, when the momentum of younger Democrats is clearly present and overwhelming (Ocasio, Omar, Tlaib, Khanna, Pressley, Davids, etc.), these young Democrats are already being maligned by the finger-wagging Boomers who are upset about the insurgency these Millennials and Gen Xers bring to the table.

It wasn't Boomers who convinced Booker to sign on to the #NewGreenDeal...it was Millenials and Gen Xers.

The Democratic Party needs to be the party of big ideas, and Boomers frankly think way too fucking small and that's because they're a generation centered around the individual, rather than society.

It's always been that way for the Boomer generation...they're called the "Me Generation" for a reason...

got a link to prove that you were not welcome?

that is insane

It is so much fun watching Deshtard beg LV for relevance.

Poor Deshtard doesn’t get it.

For longest time democrats like Deshtard have been content to have blacks and coloreds vote for them but once the vote was secured the blacks were to go back to the back of the bus. White folk like Deshtard said “we got it from here Tyrone. See you in four years”

LV is telling Deshtard that those days are over.

Deshtard is like the idiot who bought a baby tiger and then acts surprised when it grows up and eats his face

Favorite thread of 2018

If you think I consider him and you in the same batch, think again.

Not only should you be denied a seat at the table, you people shouldn't even be allowed in the same room as the fuckin' table.

You people should be forgotten, except for your legacy which will bedefined by us.

We don't need you or your votes at all.

I'm happy to welcome Boomer votes, but I'm sure as shit not welcoming yours.

we never owned the party and neither do you

When some spoiled trust fund rich kid tells someone from sh*t circumstances that they're failures even though they've overcome hell to work and support their family for 30 years, yeah it's relevant.

Shit circumstances!?

Oh, so now it's "oh the poor Conservative...he is only a failure because he was dealt a shitty hand in life."

Was he, though?

White, straight, male, and Christian isn't what I'd call "shit circumstances". I'd call it privilege. I'd call it a pretty strong hand, wouldn't you? Like being dealt a Straight Flush.

So if you've been dealt a straight flush, and you squander that straight flush by asking for new cards, whose fault is that?

Bernie isn't a Democrat wack
he doesnt believe in my party

Oh come on...

Bernie wanted to change the party and what stood in his way? Conventional Boomer Wisdom.

And Bernie succeeded anyway; the Democratic Party now supports Medicare-for-All, a Green New Deal, higher taxes on the rich and corporations, and a $15/hr minimum wage (which is still too low IMO, but baby steps...).

Bernie also brought excitement to the Democratic base that the Democrats took for granted.

It seems that they've learned their lesson though...Pelosi agreeing to step down (now if we could just get Schumer to commit to that plan too, that'd be great because he's the fuckin' worst) was a huge first step to setting the transition. Big fan of Pelosi and big fan of her knowing when it's time to cede leadership. That's the kind of good leadership Boomers have to offer.

you were not voting

you were calling the Democratic party a failure

we were fighting republican election cheating and a demographic that was full of the two generations before us who were Nixon idiots

Demographics slowly changed

we HAD to run more moderate candidates to gain the votes we needed to KEEP the cheating assed republicans party from stealing EVERYTHING

your group avoided politics instead of coming in and voting so we could move further left

"they are all the same"

remember that

young people now know that isnt true

now they have begun voting

now we can all MOVE more to the ideas we always supported but had no power to implement

and what are you doing?

telling us we are worthless

trying split the party at its seams

maybe you are not really championing the ideas

maybe you are trying to tear my party asunder

Well, hold on, though...what isn't all Boomers?

The "Me Generation"?

The individualism?

The problem with the Boomer perspective is that the Boomer generation is a generation focused on the individual and not society. "Rugged individualism" wasn't a thing until very recently, like the last 40 years. That "rugged individualism" was never a staple of modern American culture until the Boomer generation thought suffering was a virtue. Their parents suffered through two world wars and a great Depression...Boomers took the wrong message away from those because they weren't overcome by individuals, they were overcome by society pulling together to work for a common goal.

Boomers one way or another lost that perspective, likely because they were really the first American generation to live a relatively safe and comfortable life. No world wars...no massive economic crises...nothing that truly caused an existential threat to the individual. So it was super easy for a charlatan actor like Reagan to get a sense of how to manipulate people who never really had to struggle, into thinking that struggling was a virtue in order to justify draconian policy.

who labeled us the ME generation?

the old guard right who sent 18 year olds to wars and wouldn't let them vote until they were 21
