Leftwing Environmental Police State: Scanning Homes to see how people are living

No they don't but they do provide free or subsidised insulation to poorly insulated homes in many cases. People who can't afford it like pensioners, that kind of thing.

and they can't do that kind of thing with door to door visits instead of overly invasive overflights? Granted, I don't know what your countries rights are concerning unwarranted searches.

Nah; they measure water in my town, because they charge for it. They aren't watching "how I live," and your alarmist ranting doesn't change that.

This is what you do w/ your threads; you did it with a couple yesterday, and you have done it countless times since you've been posting. It's completely dishonest.

Baloney, if they wanted to get power readings, they can read your meter. Does anyone scan your house to see which rooms water is being used too much? Your comparison falls flat when done right.

Instead they are peeping in on your house to see more detailed aspects of where you use your power and possibly deducing how you are living.

Pfff that's a nice example. So you are ok with them flying over your house and inquiring about why certain rooms of your house are using more energy than normal?
It's a civil rights violation, anyone can see that, doesn't matter if it's done for some noble reason.
If someone is using more energy it will show up on their bill and they have natural incentive to handle it.

If you don't want to talk to someone at your door offering you free insulation or advice on how to heat your home you can just tell them to feck off. It's really not a big deal.

Interesting, I thought they only located visual growth in fields or gardens. In any case, one bad precedent doesn't warrant another.

I imagine most of the left is against it when it comes to drugs and would be right to be against it, then why not with against this other far more wide ranging use?

I think obtaining search warrants and throwing people in jail based on thermal imaging is a far more wide ranging use of thermal imaging technology than using it to offer practical advice on how to lower your bills. But hey, that's just me.

Clearly, you don't know that much about it.

As I'm sure you know, you're a pretty paranoid fellow.

There pretty much are none in the UK. Liberal rights are respected but they aren't entrenched.

Well, there is the European Court of Human Rights. It would be unpopular to break the treaty that established it, but it could be done by simple majority vote.

I could see this being warranted if the government pays the electric bill. do they?

Well some of it. How much did the USA spend in the oil rick gulf region in the past 10 years?

Oil is one of the major sources of energy to generate electricity.
The govt also built every single one of the dams providing commercial hydro power.

Las Vegas should bow to the US of A for providing their electricity for them.
Wasn't this a depression era recovery project?

Different councils take different approaches. If the local Conservative council wants to go down that route and people don't like it they can kick them out at the next local election.

Personally, i don't think people give a shit and don't regard it as an unwarranted search.

When I say wide ranging, I mean this town is using it on ALL housing, whereas police use thermal imaging for only CERTAIN properties where they suspect pot is being grown.

Edit: By the way, nice link. Did you notice the scads of advertisers offering thermal imaging products to police down the left-hand side of that website? Jesus.

is it that way for the the valley authority as well???

Planes fly overhead and reveal what drugs are in homes?

Dano what planet have you been on? Yes. They pretty much do. Detecting excessive energy use that can be indicative of anything from a marijuana grow room to a clean room for psychedelic mushrooms. We used to see the choppers at least a few times a week in my old neighborhood.

Do you know much about Barry Cooper? He's an interesting character. For a while, most people in the underground thought his "How to Never Get Busted for Pot Again" video was a trap, since you could only order it via credit card.

I never heard of him until I caught this video and a little write up on the Christmas tree grow operation over at reason.

BS, viewing how people use energy is seeing how they are living. How would you like it if some plane flew overhead and noticed abnormal amounts of energy being used in your bedroom? Do you want some inspector coming to your door to lecture you about responsible dildo use?

Seriously, they can see if you like to perhaps keep the heat up because someone may be sick or you have more people in your house using more energy. It's none of their goddam business. I shouldn't know how you live and you shouldn't know how I live.

I do not know about you, butt I do not use a dildo.

Yeah that Christmas tree thing is one of my personal favorites.

Cooper was a narco in Texas for a long time, and had something like 600 busts to his name. After he quit, he put out this video showing ways to fool police dogs and smuggle product in your car. It is much beloved by dealers now, but people were very suspicious when it first came out.
