Kim Jong-un commits to 'complete de-nuclearization' in historic agreement with Trump

Republican policy is to "kill brown people"??? :palm: That was FDR's policy, and it's the current liberal democrat policy in Chicago and many of our democrat controlled big cities And Socialists target Black's for abortion, to kill them before they are born.

Socialist Democrats led us into every major U.S. war of the 20th century. Socialist hero, FDR, threw brown American's into concentration camps and was supported by the socialist democrat KKK. :palm:

Nixon, ... ended the socialist democrat's Vietnam war and the draft. :palm:

And the brown people you refer to, ... are tan white people :palm:

don't feed the churls.....

It would be nice if criminal presidents at least produce foreign policy benefits, but I don't think Kim is dim: he needs his weapons to stay alive, after all.

Tom...don’t get carried away. The most significant foreign policy achievement by the US in my lifetime was achieved by the worst U.S. President in my lifetime and possibly our history who resigned in disgrace facing certain impeachment and conviction due to his criminal acts and abuse of power.

It is true that if NK does denuclearize and the Korean armistice ended and relationships between the two Koreas are normalized it will be a great foreign policy achievement. You’re a long way from being there and I will admit that Trump is incredibly unique for a Republican by having a foreign policy that doesn’t boil down to “kill brown people” and as a Democrat I’m extremely pleased to see Trump embrace liberal internationalism.

Now if he was only consistent.

That's because, as an incredibly prescient article posted on here stated, Trump is a pragmatist first and foremost. Look I know it could all go titsup but Pompeo and Mattis are no fools and they won't agree anything without rigorous inspections. They have learnt the lessons from previous failures. I just find it amazing how Trump ischaracterised as a bumbling idiot yet no other president has come this far already. I sometimes think he, like emperor Claudius, uses that to his advantage.

You're always such a miserable sod, then again I would probably be the same living in a shithole like Tonypandy.

Yup.

Probably understands at least some English. Likes basketball lol. Kim knows what NK can be. We’ll find out how bad he wants it.

He attended the private English-language International School of Bern in Gümligen under the name ‘Chol-pak’ or ‘Pak-chol’ from 1993 to 1998.

I agree. He’s certainly no Republican and can you imagine the GOP’s consternation at his meeting Kim by the party? If Obama had done that can you imagine how the GOP would have howled in outrage as the did when Obama engaged with Iran?

The fact is Trump is right to engage with NK and Obama was correct to engage with Iran and Trump was wrong to unilaterally end the Iranian agreement. Which is what I meant by his inconsistency.

Well, he’ll have a nice picture of “ honorable” Kim for his family photo album.

  • President Trump and Kim Jong-un met at the Capella Resort, an isolated hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore
  • They had a handshake photo-op before engaging in a one-on-one conversation with translators that lasted nearly 45 minutes
  • Their private meeting gave way to an expanded bilateral with top officials from both countries
  • Trump will address the media on Tuesday afternoon prior to his departure for Washington
  • The summit began at 9 am in Singapore, which is 9pm EDT on the East Coast
  • President Trump said in his first remarks that 'it's an honor' to be meeting with Kim, whom he expects to have 'a terrific relationship' with now that they've been personally introduced
  • Kim told the U.S. president, 'It was not easy to get here...old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward, but we overcame all of them'
  • Trump set the tone for the talks, sending Kim an outstretched hand and patting the dictator's right elbow with the other
  • Neither man smiled during the formal photo, but Trump gave Kim a warm grip-and-grin moments later
  • The two signed a 'comprehensive' agreement but didn't immediately reveal the language

That make it what? 3 or 4 times he's committed?

North Korea Keeps Its Nukes for Now[/h]
The Singapore declaration does not commit Kim Jon Un to a firm, verifiable process for giving up his nuclear weapons, but the president believes Kim ‘will do the right thing.’

The historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ended with the celebratory signing of a declaration that the United States and North Korea will “work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

But the declaration, which echoes the vague language of an April joint statement by Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, does not commit North Korea to a firm, verifiable process for giving up its nuclear weapons or the associated research-and-development effort.

Despite Trump telling reporters that his meeting with Kim went “better than anybody could have expected,” only one man truly had any reason to celebrate.

Kim walked away from the brief summit at a Singapore hotel on June 12 with all the legitimacy that a meeting with the world’s most powerful person confers—and without giving up very much in return. In addition, Trump said the U.S. would end war games with South Korea.

Sorry but the Iran deal was a shitty one, leaving them the ability to produce weapons grade uranium is not needed or necessary. Although I do wish he would come down hard on the Israelis and force them to allow inspections.

All of that could change in a split second if NK starts playing games.

“This looks like a restatement of where we left negotiations more than 10 years ago and not a major step forward.”

The document made no mention of the sanctions and nor was there any reference to finally signing a peace treaty.

Fail

Talk about your nothing burgers
True but it was an important first step. Time will tell if Kim is being an honest player. I support the President in his efforts with NK and criticize his policy towards Iran.

It was a 'start' back in 2005 when similar language was agreed to.
I'm REALLY disappointed. Not even a Peace Treaty.

stop it, wanker.

Either go away, or preface your negativity with "being devils advocate here", or something.
Otherwise what is your purpose in adding to the conversation.
this moment is historic, and a beam of hope for millions of people currently living under horrible inhumane conditions in NK.
And closer to home a chance to denuclearize , by removing a threat to not only the region, but the entire world.

it's bitter sour grape non-sense to paint this in any other way, yet anyway.

The only thing that happened was Trump and Kim met face to face. Which side wins with that?

Fail summit. Nothing accomplished. No CVID, no end to war, no inspectors on the ground, nothing dismantled.
