Carrey falls slightly behind The Smothers Brothers in the 'Funny' Stakes. He has one or maybe two facial distortions and a couple of mildly humourous lines. His talent lies in the fact that he has made millions by serving up the same old rubbish for years.
The MacDonalds business model.

Smothers Bros. were very dry. Many didn't 'get' them. Perhaps you were one?

Carrey is extremely talented. But...much like Eddie Murphy, when the studios flood the market with content, much of it is sub par. Blame the contracts that bring truckloads of money. Quantity is valued over quality.

Oh no. The Smothers Brothers were useful for one reason and one reason only. They cast in stone the nadir of comedy. They existed in a time of dire post warness and they faced very little competition. Thankfully they appeared on British TV but once or twice before being ridiculed back to wherever they came from.
I beg to differ on Carrey too. The ability to contort one's face is not talent and when the same contortions are re-hashed ad nauseam and the sorry few, who can be bothered, still laugh like loons, all that is achieved is the separation of a nation into those who should survive and those for whom the possession of sharp objects might be considered too dangerous.

If all you saw in that vid, as well as Carrey's other work was facial contortion, then clearly his humor is above you.

But, as with the S. Bros, humor is subjective.

Why is this such a big issue? He's a comedian who made fun of our beliefs. This isn't some kind of horrible offense. Are you folks really so bigoted that you'd go crazy trying to defame anyone who disagrees with you? Or so ignorant that this is something new to you?

I do not wish to offend but Carrey's humour is above no one. It is facile in the extreme. Like an eleven year old whose mother laughs at his 'funny' faces he has convinced himself he is funny. Put him up against real comedians and he doesnt even warrant being jn their audience. He possess absolutely no wit. Where would he be with Monty Python? Rowan Atkinson, seinfeld, hope, and so many others. And that is without a mention of Peter Kaye, Charlie Chaplin etc etc etc.
