January MONSTER Jobs Report!

Of course not. Engineering, Maritime fields, Project Management. You know, degrees in demand and ones that will get you a job.
That's interesting. I know an engineer who has been employed at GE for about 4 years. His application was one of 100 that applied for the job. Are you claiming that there aren't thousands of college students who can't find work in the field they studied?

Don't get me wrong. I'm one who believes that many who go to college are taking a vacation from life, and obtaining useless degrees.

But the issue is quality jobs, and the inability to find them.

Everyone I know is working and has been.

the American economy is a huge behemoth that has a momentum of its own. Trump has done some real stupid things with tariffs and unilaterally ending trade deals. The market shows that his stumbling is noted and the "experts" think Trumps bumbling will end the 10 year growth. The economy has been able to withstand Trump. That is pretty powerful.

Thanks for inadvertently admitting Obama had nothing to do with the economy. No President does.

not true. tax policy and deregulation surely exploded this economy, the rest of the world is going into a slowdown.

Businesses have always found a way around stupid government policies. Businesses and people in general are way smarter than government as a whole. The only thing a President can do that will in fact impact the economy long term is war or do something stupid like shut down the banks. Something really, really drastic.

Business cannot violate EPA rules. I completely agree business/spending are responsible for for the economy because they ARE the economy ( along with government spending).

But excess regs drive down profits and markets, and production. The EPA is executive branch and enforcement protocols can be set by POTUS or Dept heads working on POTUS protocols.

da gum'mit can screw things up faster then any other entity

President's always get more credit and more blame than they deserve for the economy. Yes, their fiscal policies and rhetoric do play a role. The Fed's main job is the economy, nothing else. Most of us don't fully understand what the Fed does and the role it plays in the economy so we credit/blame the President instead.

Fed's job is to adjust rates -do they have other functions? ( since you know more then I do about it)

But taxes and regulations are done by POTUS ( and Congress on taxes) and directly effect growth.

I don't think so. do you recall the horror stories from WOTUS? How about the Paris Climate Accord?

Why farmers and ranchers think the EPA Clean Water Rule goes too far

n a long-anticipated move, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers announced this week the Trump administration’s proposed withdrawal of water protections for thousands of wetlands and waterways across the country.

That change to the Obama-era “waters of the United States” rule (WOTUS) is a massive shift from both the Obama administration’s interpretation of U.S. water protections as well as from historical enforcement of the 1972 Clean Water Act more generally.

Under the new plan, waters that only occur during rains or snow melts — such as seasonal streams and rivers — would not be considered federally protected; nor would wetlands not connected to other federally protected waterways.

“For the first time, we are clearly defining the difference between federally protected waterways and state protected waterways,” said acting EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler in a statement, calling the proposed changes “simpler and clearer” and designed to help landowners. Money talks, politicians squawk. That has never changed. I will wholeheartedly agree with you that the common folks are always hurt by bullshit regulations set forth by government. Follow the money trails and you will find out where most of the hare brained policies and regulations came from. They certainly are not the ideas of brain dead politicians. There is always, always an ulterior source.

Fed's job is to adjust rates -do they have other functions?

The Federal Reserve's responsibilities fall into five general areas.

  1. Conducting the nation's monetary policy by influencing money and credit conditions in the economy in pursuit of full employment and stable prices.
  2. Supervising and regulating banks and other financial institutions to ensure the safety and soundness of the nation's banking and financial system to protect consumers.
  3. Maintaining the stability of the financial system and containing systemic risk that may arise in financial markets.
  4. Providing financial services to the U.S. government, financial institutions, and foreign official institutions.
  5. Operating and overseeing the nation's payments systems.
