Is "Thug" an overused term with racial undertones?

So shit talking on national television is violent? I mean come on its contact sports of course it's violent but there is a difference between using violence to project positive energy ergo, sports as opposed to using violence to cause harm and death ergo criminal activity.
 
Didn't read through all of the responses, but I've gotta believe that if Richard Sherman was white, "thug" wouldn't be the word people would be using. A white Richard Sherman would still get criticized, but not the same way.

If a black guy tells you that when he's called a thug it feels racial to him, do you feel you know better? I mean, I know you do when a woman tells you something feels sexist, but I want to see if it's just women you dismiss out of hand.

If a black guy tells you that when he's called an idiot it feels racial to him, do you feel you know better?

You can insert any word that has negative connotation into your question... just curious... does your white guilt combined with your need to feel superior mean you don't think ANY word with negative connotation can be used when referencing a minority?
